Okay, for this image I'm trying to do, I need to have the lines and shading in one color (yellow), and all the other stuff in the background color (red). The easiest thing to do would be to make everything into neat lines in black and then do color replacers (replace black with yellow and white with red). Unfortunately, PSP 8 doesn't seem to have this on there. Is there a way to do it? (I could also use Adobe Photoshop)

i'm confused, why can't you do it in the colors you want in the first place?

do you think you could show us the image and describe what you want to do a little more? thanks :)

Okay, I'm trying to get the thing to be black and white (not grayscale), so all I need to do is a color replacer-thing. However, I want to preserve the shading, if simplifying it a little so it comes out cleaner. So this works, I'll need to make the shading into patches of lines of varying widths/spacing something like this:cube (http://www.geocities.com/songoku_is_mine/shadedcube.html) or just black patches. However, all the effects I've looked at leave the picture looking incredibly...messy. And they take forever to do...I can't get the thing to be two-toned, so the color replacer works out. I've done it in Photoshop (2 years ago, so I don't remember how I did it) but I can't get it to work in PSP.

After reading your post, I think what your trying to say is you need to know where the color replacer is in psp8 and how to use it. In psp if you find the dropper icon and click the arrow to the side of it a little thing pops down and you can select the color replacer there. You change the background color to the color you want to change and the foreground color to the color you want to change it to and then simply click on the spot. I may be totally off on what you were hoping to learn but I hope this helped somewhat.

My problem is getting the thing to be black and white, preserve shading, without ending up with a horribly disgusting and complex-looking thing. I'd almost say...comicbook style, with shadow indicated with lines and pools of black...the recoloring part is easy. :)

can you just make a bunch of line on one layer, select those lines and just drop a shadow or is that too orderly?

well...it's a rather complicated image...that would involve a rather huge number of lines...:)

true but don't you have to draw them anyways?

Well, I just thought of a better way to explain it-engraving. But I figured it out...*sighs at the irritating way the world works*
