View Full Version : Athens 2004
adrielle 08-14-2004, 05:42 PM Did anyone see the opening ceremony? Whoa, it was breathtaking...awesomeness! :P :D Only though, the speeches were kinda dragged...thats only my opinion anyways.
The lil guy in the boat was cool...and that parade!!! Really awesome. But what on earth was that lady (who is she? wha'ts Bjork?) singing?? Was it English?
starlet 08-14-2004, 06:04 PM I kinda watched it, but it was on for like...a year or something, the bit where all the countries were coming out was just dull. Saw some of the parade, it was pretty impressive...and i saw Bjork doing her bit, did seem like a very odd choice...youd think they'd pick a 'normal' artist who'd sing a nice happy song you can get up and jig to...not something about salty sweat lol
sebluver 08-14-2004, 06:17 PM I watched up until a little bit after the US came on the screen (which is funny, because I wasn't even watching it for them), and then turned it off. I like watching the costumes and such, but I'd only like that if there were 50 countries. Not 226 (or whotever that large number is).
i watched until a bit after the little boy on the paper boat bit, and that's about it...
westernrider 08-14-2004, 08:13 PM The women that had the glowing pregnant stomach was really weird. It was fun to watch though... I watch all 3 or so hours of it becuase I had nothing else to do :P
salomeyasobko 08-14-2004, 08:32 PM ^are you talking about bjork? i think she's soo weird.. i don't understand why her "music" is so critically acclaimed.. she doesn't even sing very well
i watched the ceremony! i think it is so cool that all the countries can come together... :) i agree with you though, Addy, the speeches did drag on abit.
i am so excited, swimming and gymnastics are shown on the same day[s]! and they are the two i want to see!
i'm rooting for russia
kittycat 08-14-2004, 09:15 PM I completely forgot that the Olympics started yesterday, so I missed the opening ceremony... I started watching the diving this afternoon at the orthodontist office. I'm in awe of how people can do this stuff :P
sebluver 08-14-2004, 09:22 PM ^are you talking about bjork? i think she's soo weird.. i don't understand why her "music" is so critically acclaimed.. she doesn't even sing very well
Wait, Bjork was the woman with that creepy glowing stomach?
MaGiCSuN 08-14-2004, 10:51 PM i was like this --> <-- when Dj Tiesto did his thing :P
that's about all i saw from it, i don't have the patient nor the time to see it. Besides i saw the rerun of it because we where out for dinner when it got broadcasted live i believe.
sisqoluv 08-14-2004, 11:03 PM I was watching GTA IV on my PS2, so I wasn't thinking about it, lol. I should remind my dad, since he asked me to print up the event list and dates for him.
salomeyasobko 08-14-2004, 11:32 PM Wait, Bjork was the woman with that creepy glowing stomach?
well she performed.. and she wore that weird gown thing that was draped over everyone.. the thing with the world map.
i didn't see any pregnant/glowing stomachs though :confusion
westernrider 08-15-2004, 12:25 AM Oh no... that was a different women
the one with the glowing stomach walked into the water and then all these DNA strands formed togeather... it was weird.
jazzberry 08-15-2004, 01:22 AM I watched pretty much the whole thing. My favourite part was the parade thing. The first few tableaux had the most amazing outfits. They looked like dolls and I wanted to steal their dresses!
When the Canadians came into the stadium, the CBC called a few of them on their cell phones and talked to them, it was kinda cool, but they were also wasting time, we could have been watching other countries come into the stadium.
Owlie42 08-16-2004, 01:37 AM I watched the whole thing. Not closely, of course. I wanted to see the reception that Turkey got. :D
Tsuki Usagi 08-16-2004, 04:33 AM I feel asleep during it, it was really boring.
