View Full Version : .Htaccess Milkymoon7896 04-01-2003, 08:27 PM Hi, i dont understand this coustom 404 thing. I read her tutorial. And just dont understand. Okay7 you have to name the file .htaccess right? Well what goes before it? Like "Whatshould go here.htacesss" Stormx 04-01-2003, 08:31 PM no, .htaccess isn't the file type. It should be called: .htaccess.txt I have no idea why it has the dot before it but it just does. epolady 04-01-2003, 08:53 PM Nothing comes before .htacess. It is not called .htaccess.txt, if it is named that, rename it with your FTP program to just .htaccess. Stormx 04-01-2003, 08:56 PM No, that is it's ROXXOR MS DOS NAME . Duh. It is a .txt though! epolady 04-01-2003, 09:15 PM It is not called .htaccess.txt. Some editors name it that way though, and a simple renaming of the file using an FTP program will give you .htaccess. http://javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess.shtml pb&j 04-01-2003, 11:14 PM Originally posted by Stormx No, that is it's ROXXOR MS DOS NAME . Duh. It is a .txt though! the htaccess file has no "filename" and no further extensions on it. epolady is correct. .htaccess there should NOT be any .txt on the end. Milkymoon7896 04-02-2003, 12:50 PM AH i just dont get it.....its not working. My server doesnt mention it though!here (http://www.digital-escape.org/.htaccess) There is my htaccess file. Whats wrong? pb&j 04-02-2003, 02:24 PM does your host support htaccess capabilities? did you upload the file in ASCII mode through FTP? do you have the CHMOD of the file set to 644? Stormx 04-02-2003, 04:00 PM Duh, it is a .txt! it isn't a gif or jpg is it not? Not a .dat or a .bin . It is a .txt! lefty 04-02-2003, 04:24 PM From here (http://www.lissaexplains.com/html6.shtml#block).... Create a text file as described above with the .htaccess extension. It is a .txt! .htaccess is the extension, if there was one. it is not a txt file, lay off it Please do not bring up old threads. -Moderator sebluver 05-20-2003, 09:40 PM If you're hosted in some places...they already have an .htaccess file thing. You can just change the address in there too the address you want to use...I hope I was helpful...=S |
