AHHHH!!! Today I had to take a 4 hour class online to get my permit, and didn't realize I could take the ACTUAL learner's permit test online! So I took it, and PASSED! Tomorrow morning my mom and I are going to go pick it up!

Evil is good. :hehe:

Matt, a kid in my class has a brother who just started to drive, and on his AIM subprofile thingy he said "Please tell your parents to be EXTRA CAREFUL on the roads cuz my bro just got his liscense" His brother's names is Mike, interesting enough. :P

Thats cool Sarah, I was the most happy in my whole life when I went to get my permit. When I came back from my test I had a brand new Ninja motorcycle waiting in my living room, i didnt even know I could ride a motorcycle with just a permit. But its been down hill ever since.

Congratulations :wolf: Driving is great, you don't have to bribe people to take you places. Of course, until you get a car, you have to beg them to borrow theirs

Whoah, I didn't know you can get a permit online- I thought you had to do like a physical test.
You make it sound like you have to lift weights or something. hehe. You just have to take a written test. It would be stupid to take a practical test getting your permit because you wouldn't know anything about driving!
17 is late! I got mine at 15 but now you have to be 15 and a half. You can get a license at 16 but I think 17 is probably safer. It freaks me out knowing that some of my peers are legally on the road. *shudder*

in holland you have to be 18 to take lessons and 17 to get the test. Without test you can't take lessons and cannot get your driving licenses. Although the test is only counting for 6 months i believe, so not many people get the test allready and then start taking lessons. I'm fine with those ages. Many people that are even 16 are too immature to drive a whole car, they are allready dangerous with a scooter! (16 is legal age for scooter driving license) So i agree with you about the age thing :) (although numbers are not the same, but you get my point!)

Love,
Mirna

08-06-2004, 12:43 AM
Oh wait....so a permit isnt a license? A permit means you are allowed to learn to drive and then you still need to do something else to get the actual license, that'd make a lot more sense to me because i really dont understand how someone can be allowed to drive just by taking a test online...never having been behind the wheel of a car before!?

lefty
08-06-2004, 12:48 AM
Yeah we take a test to get a learner's permit... it's pretty basic things about driving. So while we have the permit, we're allowed to drive if a licensed driver is in the car, which is how we learn :D Then we'll take the road test to get a license.

salomeyasobko
08-06-2004, 12:49 AM
my mom and sister take me driving in empty parking lots sometimes.. even though i can only get my permit in a year. i loove driving- even though it's somewhat frightening when you start out, the idea of not having to ask for a ride when i want to go somewhere is very exciting :P

i really don't understand those people that wait FOREVER to get their license.. why wouldn't you want to be independant when it comes to transportation?!

oooooooooh, ok thats a relief
I knew its a lot easier to get on the road in America than over here, but that seemed shocking...and it was because i misunderstood heh

Here you can get your provisional license when you are 17, its like £21 but you dont need to take a test or anything to get it. Once you have that you can start taking lessons (about £15 an hour), then you have to take and pass a theory (written) test (£20), then you take the practical test (£40) to get the actual license, tis a very long and expensive process!!

lefty
08-06-2004, 01:23 AM
yeah it's way too cheap/easy to get a license over here. It scares me to think that I got my license at 16, and driver's ed cost me $3 to take. Now it's free :P

kittycat
08-06-2004, 01:49 AM
Driver's ed is free???? It cost $360 for me to take it, with another company it would've been even more. I've always heard Americans were insane drivers, I can see why with what some of you are saying :P
And I don't think I've said this yet, but congrats Sarah :P If you didn't pass I think you'd have to be prodded with pointy objects, because it's the easiest test ever to pass :P

i heard that americans think we drive too fast... although, they did wanna change the speed limit of some of our highways to 140kmph... *crazy*

is it true that u can actually DRIVE at age 16 in california?

Maybe if you actually had a car :P
hey, I have use of my brother's car while he's at work (yay for him having a company vehicle :P), although now my parents are saying they don't want me driving it alone until it gets fixed... apparently the front end is all kinds of screwed up (I guess it needs a CV joint, control arm, and a bunch of other stuff, and the place my brother always goes to wanted $700 to fix it all- and it's a 1988 car he paid like $2400 for :P)

I believe driver's ed cost me $225 (and it would be $325 for people that don't live in my school district if they took it there). every other summer school course is $3, though :P

I had to do it the old-fashioned way - I went to the DMV. puh :P

That stinks that some have to buy drivers ed. For us, it's a course that is automatically included in out 10th grade curiculum, so bam you automatically take it 10th grade year.

In germany, it costs [I believe] $1500-$2000. Jeeze.

y'know, I was actually surprised at how much technology the NYS DMV uses... I didn't give them enough credit :P

I was able to schedule my road test online, and when I actually took it, the guy checked me off his list or something using the PDA he had, then when i was done, he hit some buttons and printed out my temporary license with the things I got points taken off for right there in the car. but I had to go to the DMV to get my permit :P but that's actually probably a good thing, because they obsessively check things then (you need absolute proof of your identity) and you need to pay for it then, so when you get your license they can do everything else they need to do right in the car. (they don't need to check your identity or anything and you don't need to pay any fees at that point)
