View Full Version : Which is the best browser and why? skyjuice 07-27-2004, 04:02 AM I know there's tons of best browser threads out there, but I was wondering why people think that one or this one's better, so yeah. Valkyrie 07-27-2004, 04:29 AM Its probably not the best, but I prefer using Netscape. I like its tab browsing feature, that way, I dont have to have all these windows open and I like the pop up blocker too. I guess thats why I like Netscape better than IE.. :p salomeyasobko 07-27-2004, 04:33 AM mozilla firefox, probably. it rarely gets popups/ads/spyware [never for me], it has tabbed browsing too.. but i use IE. i'm used to it, i haven't made my site 100% mozilla compatible because i'm too lazy & don't know what i need to change.. but i don't like IE that much, it has so many pop ups and my computer always gets diseases from it =( i guess it's partly subjective.. it depends on what you're used to and what your priorities in a browser are. Combat Babe 07-27-2004, 04:39 AM ahem. ::prepares lecture:: I believe, personally, that mozilla is better, though I must admit, I have never used it. This is because I have a...er...*tries to sound proffesional* interesting computer that will only allow IE to access the internet. However, I do have mozilla, and design my website in it, so therefore, I like it best. It has tabbed browsing, pop-up blocker, and many other great features, much like netscape, and it is free! When my computer is no longer interesting then I shall definitely be using it. However, I will keep IE around to test my scrollbars and such. Death 07-27-2004, 04:44 AM Well, with these hackers going around that are putting scripts into most sites that use windows servers which give you viruses through internet explorer, I'd have to say Mozilla Firefox is the best. I started using Mozilla after putting two viruses on my mums computer just by going to one site 0.o My bro warned me about he virusy hacky thingy, but I didn't believe him :P Now I do. I still use internet explorer to test layouts n' things, since most people seem to use it, and some things show up differently in Mozilla than they do in IE. But I deffinately like Mozilla best, I love the tabs and the pop-up blocker ^.^ Monkey Bizzle 07-27-2004, 05:53 AM i haven't tried any other browsers but the only thing i have good to say about IE is that it has the most variety of web design codes... ex: colored scroll bars and embedded fonts... Aussie Cap 07-27-2004, 05:56 AM One that has good security. Yeah, that rules Internet Explorer out. If I had a better computer (and knowledge of computers), I'd get something more complex. It beats visiting the repair shop every 5 months or so. Dude128 07-27-2004, 05:59 AM Netscape. tabs + built in AIM (though it's not quite full-featured) = coolness. bubblegum 07-27-2004, 06:16 AM mozilla firefox, probably. it rarely gets popups/ads/spyware [never for me], it has tabbed browsing too.. but i use IE. i'm used to it, i haven't made my site 100% mozilla compatible because i'm too lazy & don't know what i need to change.. but i don't like IE that much, it has so many pop ups and my computer always gets diseases from it =( i guess it's partly subjective.. it depends on what you're used to and what your priorities in a browser are. Well, with the Google toolbar (which is free and easy to get) you can block popups using IE; though, I admit, some popups do get through. I do like Mozilla, however. Roxx 07-27-2004, 06:24 AM i really dont recommend IE, just because there are just endless amounts of pop ups and it freezes on a regular basis, and has to many error. Just to much to deal with, unfortuatly its all i have and i have gotten used to using it. -=[Lauren]=- 07-27-2004, 08:24 AM I use FireFox, But for some sites, Like this one I use IE. I can't seem to play arcade with FireFox. sjb 07-27-2004, 05:44 PM Well i use IE, only cause i'm really used to it, but mozilla is actually really good. Heres the thing if you're a "lazy coder" (might not be lazy might just overlook things) or go to sites who have lazy coders you're better off using IE for your site, but if you're not and want it compatible with everything use Mozilla 99% of the time everything apears right on it from what i've seen. I also like the view source of it...it's all colour coded Sephira 07-27-2004, 08:01 PM in terms of support and programming? they all suck. it all depends on what the user likes. none of the browsers really support everything that they should code wise, and nevermind the idea of being standards compliant. most people use IE, but from the developer's point of view, FireFox has it going for them so far. JustOneSyllable 07-27-2004, 08:48 PM Opera & Mozilla suck! Opera is bad because for the free-trial they have links and pop-ups of Adult Sites, and Mozilla isn't AS bad as Opera, but stinks because when I had Netscape it wouldn't let me play games or go in chatrooms or anything. Yeah, I just use I.E. Not great ... but at least it doesn't suck. These are the only 3 browsers I've used so there MAY be better ones out there. Do a search on Yahoo! or Google for "good browsers" or something (http://www.yahoo.com | http://www.google.com) weird girl 07-27-2004, 09:29 PM Firefox rocks yo! :P If you need to search for something, you can just type the letters of your search query and firefox (and probably Mozilla) will highlight it for you. No need to go through the excruciating effort of holding down ctrl +f to find something. :P Ctrl + t opens a new tab. You can set a minimum font size which is handy if you come across a site with an idiot of a webdesigner who thinks 6pt serif font is cool. You can have extre features such as themes and random extensions. I'm using Mozilla StupidGecko right now. Firefox is far more secure than IE ever will be. It blocks pop-ups. I can actually see the favicons for a site, unlike in IE. It has a toolbar type thing below the address bar, with a list of links, so that acessing certain sites takes only one click, as opposed to going through the awful effort of accessing ther favorites menu. :P Sorry if there's some way you could do that in IE, but I wouldn't know. :P Mozilla has superior css support in my mind. Here (http://www.mezzoblue.com/zengarden/alldesigns/specialeffects/) are some designs that work fine in Firefox, but just don't look quite right in IE, or don't even work at all in IE. :P Sephira 07-27-2004, 09:38 PM Opera is bad because for the free-trial they have links and pop-ups of Adult Sites ummm that sounds more like you have some kind of ad-ware on your computer. Mozilla has superior css support in my mind. that it does. now if only Microsoft could support *half* of the standards that Mozilla does. skyjuice 07-27-2004, 09:46 PM um...why was the thread moved? kittycat 07-27-2004, 10:02 PM It has a toolbar type thing below the address bar, with a list of links, so that acessing certain sites takes only one click, as opposed to going through the awful effort of accessing ther favorites menu. :P Sorry if there's some way you could do that in IE, but I wouldn't know. :P It's the Links folder under favourites where you stick the bookmarks, then show the Links toolbar :P I prefer Firefox for the reasons pretty much everyone else has said, I only use IE for helping people on the forums because that's the only way I can see exactly what problem the page has :P (in FF it'll either look completely horrendous or like nothing's wrong) sebluver 07-27-2004, 11:33 PM ...and Mozilla isn't AS bad as Opera, but stinks because when I had Netscape it wouldn't let me play games or go in chatrooms or anything. News flash, honey. Mozilla isn't Netscape. That's like saying, "I hate apples because one time I ate an orange.." starlet 07-27-2004, 11:48 PM IE (WITH SP2) for me, i don't object to Firefox..its quite nice, its just really buggy on my comp for some reason so i rarely use it. IE minus SP2 is a NIGHTMARE, i was getting spyware, viruses, homepage hijackers etc etc on a daily basis...but ive had SP2 installed for two weeks and not had a single problem, it blocks all the bad stuff...and it has a built in popup stopper that works 100% |
