Does GeoCities allow their free users to use MySQL databases, and if they do, where do I go to set one up? I've looked all over the site and I still can't find this info.

I downloaded the WordPress blog to use on the site I'm working on, but I didn't know I'd need a database before downloading it. I'd like to stay with GeoCities for the time being, but if there's a good, reliable host that will allow MySQL databases for free users, or a good blog site that doesn't require a database, please let me know! Thanks. :D

Nutz. :\ If you bought one of their hosting packages would they allow advanced programming? Because I was thinking about buying one after I had my site up for awhile...

I think if you buy a package GeoCities will let you do the Advanced Programming. On their site though, when you're looking through the available packages, it should tell you if it will allow Advanced Programming.

if you're willing to pay for a host, i'd search for a better one than yahoo geocities.. i heard that geocities is a sucky host, so search the forum because lots of hosting suggestions have been made in the past :)

All of Geocities's paid plans are complete garbage. They do not allow any
advanced programming. Try some of the host's listed below.

I Power Web (http://www.ipowerweb.com) $7.95/Month (Personal fav)
Dream Host (http://www.dreamhost.com) $9.95/Month & up
Zero Catch (http://www.0catch.com) $14.95/Month

My hosting plan allows all kinds of advanced programming but how do I make a login box for people to login. Do I need some kind of database for the usernames and passwords to be stored?

Yes, if you want it to be secure, you can use PHP and have a database using MYSQL. If you have never coded in PHP before, it might be a little tricky.

which host? ipowerweb I'm guessing. They do not provide cpanel, that is why their prices are so low.

If you're just starting out, try http://www.hostultra.com and their mini host. It's quite cheap, only $20/year for 200mb space 5gb bandwidth, advanced programming and unlimited MySQL. The problem is that it's very basic in features, you get CPanel 8 but only the necessary features. If you want more you would have to get a bigger plan.
