Hi, I have purchased a new domain - means, I am a poor unemployed, a friend purchased it for me. Now I got an URL:

(Bedause of avoiding add I say only "sitename" instead of the real name:)

http://www."sitename".info

With the notice of the new domain provided, the provider sent me following data:

pop server pop."sitename".info

smtp."sitename".info

ftp."sitename".info

user: "sitename"

Password: *******

My Question:

Would someone say in short words, what pop smtp and ftp means?

Which of this do I need, to make my already designed html-code available on the net?

Greetings from Austria

the pop and smtp settings are to enter into your email settings. they will allow you to receive emails using your domain name.

whatever@yourdomainname.com

ftp is File Transfer Protocol. basically you can find an ftp program which then lets you transfer files from your computer directly up to the hosting online server computer. you may be used to an "easy" upload system, well this is just like that only a step above. the ftpname, username, and password will be required to make the ftp program work onto your online space. if you have already designed pages, this ftp is your next step to getting them online.

you can do a search in this forum area for ftp and find many threads that give suggestions and opinions about different programs. there are quite a few to try, most are free.
