View Full Version : Final Grades
thezeppzone 06-28-2004, 02:05 AM Seeing as it seems that most of you are probably out of school for the year, or coming very close, how were your final semester grades. I had 4 grades to look at for each class(3rd quarter, 4th quarter, final exam, semester grade), then my GPA....so yeh ill post them because right now i am completely bored but its too buggy outside to rollerblade....so yeh...
Class: 3rd Quarter Grade : 4th Quarter Grade : Final Exam Grade : Semester Grade
Physics: B : B : D : B-
World History: A : A- : C+ : A-

Critical Reading & Writing: A : B : A- : A-
Algebra 2: B+ : B : A : B+
Marching Band: A : A : A : A
Total GPA: 3.573
So yeah, my most 2 surprising were physics, i thought i was going to fail and i got a D, does that count as good? Also Algebra 2 Im thought the highest i would get was B or B-, but i guess not, so im happy for my grades, and next year shouldnt be much worse, or better for that matter lol.....so how about yall else?
Monkey Bizzle 06-28-2004, 02:21 AM Good Job!! I am in college so I only get 3 grades... and for boring classes... but I am proud of myself!
Problem Solving... A
Strategies For The Technical Professional... B+
Intro. To Personal Computers... A
GPA: 3.8
This is the 4th time I have attempted college and the first time I made anything higher than a D!! YAY!!!
lefty 06-28-2004, 02:30 AM You guys are smart :P My GPA for the semester wound up being 3.08, and cummulative is 2.95.
I got a B- in the class I thought I was going to fail (Study of Literature), so I was all happy about that.
Monkey Bizzle 06-28-2004, 02:32 AM ehh... those classes were WAY easy tho... this quarter, i have intro to comp programming... my teacher sorta' sucks and it's not lookin' so good for that!
kittycat 06-28-2004, 05:27 AM Don't know marks until Wednesday, but I know I got a 93 in calculus and 100 in comp. programming, my chemistry mark should be around a 92 and French 85 or so - I can do grammar work sheets but I so don't know when I'm supposed to use all the stuff in writing :P Much safer sticking with the present tense
salomeyasobko 06-28-2004, 05:57 AM band: A
science: A
geometry: B+ :P
PE: A-
language arts/lit: A
social studies: A
i should've gotten an A in geometry.. i had an A average for all of the tests! except i got a C on one of the finals [there were three] :buckt:
for PE, i had to miss a lot of runs and stuff because i have stomach problems and my teacher gave me zeros for all the runs i missed even though i had a doctor's note!! isn't that mean? :grouch: but i don't really care about PE, and i got an A in the end so whatever..
kicker91 06-28-2004, 06:07 AM I forgot everything but I know my cummulative is 3.8.
Dude128 06-28-2004, 07:38 AM here we go: 4th marking period - final exam - final average
AP English Literature and Composition: 96 - 86 - 83
A pleasure to have in class
Is conscientious and hard working
Economics: 97 - 91 - 95
Very cooperative-exhibits an excellent attitude
Preparation for class is excellent
Participation in Government (even though I really took AP U.S. Government- long story :P): (first semester) MP1: 90 MP2: 90 - 90 - 90
AP Calculus AB: 72 - 91 - 81
A pleasure to have in class
Principles of Engineering: 90 - 84 (my group's final project was such a piece of garbage lol) - 90
A pleasure to have in class
Health: (first semester): MP1: 100 MP2: 90 - 100 - 96 (I'm pretty sure I didn't get a 100 on the final, because there was stuff we didn't even learn on it, and other people said the same thing and also got 100- we've come to the conclusion that our teacher gave 100s to the people that should have gotten it lol)
PE: (MP1-4): S, S, S, S - no final exam - S
also gotta love the rather vague and overused comments. I would say that teachers kind of don't have enough choice, but I know that one of my teachers last year once went on and on about the comment choices and how most of them say the same thing in only slightly different words. they're really a joke- some teachers intentionally screw them up just to mix things up- I know of one teacher that when they used the "bubble sheets" (not it's computerized), he would figure out a comment that he wanted to use for each student, then shift every one over one column so that people would get all sorts of random comments. then there are the teachers that use the one about not being dressed for class (for gym classes, I hope everyone realized :P) for an academic class.
not my best averages overall, but I've had a heck of a year with all sorts of stuff going on. so I had 53 absenses, but I still managed to do reasonably well I think :P and I graduated (today, actually), so I don't really care :P
Monkey Bizzle 06-28-2004, 02:10 PM ...so I had 53 absenses...
GEEZ!! Do you guys have a limit?? At my school, since we had block scheduling, if you got more than 11 unexcused absenses for a class, then you automatically fail. I got suspended for 10 days (which counts as unexcused) plus all the school skipping I did and they tried to fail me from all my classes but I got A's on all the exams and my parents fought with the school board and they decided to let me pass... stupid school board... and their stupid rules...
Makar 06-28-2004, 02:17 PM Golly, I haven't gotten my grades yet. My school likes to mail them three weeks after school's out. I'll be sure to post them though, just to make any of you guys who think you didn't do too well feel better. :P
jessi15 06-28-2004, 03:07 PM I should get mine sometime in July. They're going to be disgustingly low this year. I've had a really rough year.
lefty 06-28-2004, 03:46 PM ... gotta love the rather vague and overused comments.
I was always "a pleasure to have in class." :P
In high school my band director memorized what comments were what number, so he didn't check the accompanying sheet when doing grades - and therefore didn't know they changed everything around, either. So my "performanced had to be improved," or something, and my mom flipped out. I'm like, it's band. I'm sure he messed something up.
Everyone else had crappy comments, too, and he later told us what had happened.
Makar 06-28-2004, 04:04 PM My band teacher has no time to write comments, so she draws a quick little smiley face on each progress report. :)
But yeah, "A pleasure to have in class" has got to be used the most. Sometimes though, I would get specific comments, such as "does a good job on essays" and "helpful during HTML unit". :P
thezeppzone 06-28-2004, 04:09 PM lets see my usuals are, a pleasure to have in class, shows good workmanship, shows responsibility/takes active roles in class, lol....poor me i was my 5th hours teachers pet :( rofl
Monkey Bizzle 06-28-2004, 07:46 PM our report cards were set up so the teacher puts a number for a corresponding comment so they didn't have to think up one on their own...
1-5 were good comments and 6-10 were bad comments...
sisqoluv 06-28-2004, 10:03 PM GEEZ!!
Summer school for high school is kind of like that. Once you miss the third day, you're out and you fail all enrolled classes. If you get three tardys, it counts as a day missed. If you get suspended, dress code, etc; it counts as a day. One of my summer school teachers said he would love for regular school to be like that, so he can have only three students by the end of the year, I remember in tenth grade there was a boy in one of my classes that only showed up one day of the school year! My teacher called the office to see if he dropped, and they said no. Then, my teacher saw one of their relatives at the store and asked if he was okay, and he was told the boy was fine. I don't know how he got away with it, because there's limit until your parents are fined when the police show up at your house.
Grades? With an exception of Precalc, I got lazy during the end of the year, lol. I was just stuck in math, since last year's teacher didn't teach us second semester, when we were supposed to be prepared for Precalc.
Driver's Ed: A- (should've been a A, but I rushed on my 200+ question final and recieved a A- on it)
AP Bio: C+
AP English: C-
US History: A
PreCalc: D
Foods II: A (I should have an A+ since I did a few hundred points worth of extra credit with the catering club I was in!)
I forgot my second semester GPA (I only remember this because it's on my blog, lol), but AP classes are given higher points. For example, an C in English is 2 points (I think, lol), but a C in AP English is written as a C and given 3 points. So, my C's are placed in the GPA as Bs since they're college courses. I think I have a 3.2.
SSPrincess 06-29-2004, 02:27 AM Finals...the reason I haven't been on recently. I was really worried about two of my grades, so for the past two weeks (not this week though) I've been studying myself to death. And it worked! I was able to get high marks and passed the two classes I was afraid I was going to fail!!!
I haven't gotten my report card yet, but I think for Spanish 2 (the #1 class I was freaked out about, I was litterally shaking after I finished the final) I passed with a 71 and got the same grade on problem class #2 which was Pre-Calc.
I think I got ninety something for Brit Lit, Band & Chorus, eighty something for History 2A & Chem, and have no idea what I got for College Accounting.
Anyway, finals are over and it's good to be back on LEIA! :)
I lost mine... all I remember is that my average this year in English was 99, and I was very proud of that. :)
jtchange 06-29-2004, 02:58 AM well, since i don't feel like typing a lot(i'm lazy) i'll just give ya my GPA for the 2nd semester and for the whole year..
2nd sem: 3.91
year: 3.78
Dude128 06-29-2004, 03:50 AM GEEZ!! Do you guys have a limit??
I don't actually know if there's an official limit or not... even if there is, it may be excused if you have a valid reason, like I did (guidance was well aware of it, because i had to keep fighting the idiots that run the place). I know someone that goes to another school in the area, and I know he's said that they fail anyone that has more than something like 22 consecutive absenses, so what people there do is not go for like 21 days, show up one day, then not go for another 20, etc. I think though, as long as you can still pass your required classes, that they really don't care.
as for comments, i think that same teacher i mentioned that was complaining about them said that there are like 120 different ones :P that's just excessive.
my school does some weird stuff with factoring: remedial classes are factor 7, Regents level are 8, honors 9, and AP are 10. the way it works out is an 80 in an AP class would be like a 90 in an honors class, and it's counted toward class rank and everything as a 100, the Regents equivalent.
pinkpiscesgrl 06-29-2004, 03:55 AM I kinda had a lazy year....and it showed
English: B
Physics: B
P.E.: B
Spanish: B
Geometry: F
Drama: B
I honestly can't believe that I failed the class......and this guy got the same test grades as me and EVERYTHING and he got an A!!!
:star2:
salomeyasobko 06-29-2004, 04:37 AM aww, you should talk to your geometry teacher.. that's unfair that you guys got the same test grades :(
sisqoluv 06-29-2004, 04:48 AM Were tests the main portion of the grade? If so, then that F doesn't look right. However, if you didn't do any of your other work, then it might make sense.
ham_let 06-29-2004, 05:16 AM err, this year was a bad one.. hehe. avg went down...
(2002-2003)
88.5%, 91%, 92.5%
(2003-2004)
87, 88, 87.5 =P ick...
Charrey 06-29-2004, 07:54 AM Let me dig up my report card.
Photography: B-
English IV: B+
Speech: A
Spanish IV: B
Pre Calc: B
Advanced Word Processing: B
Environmental Science: B
Economics: A-
Religion IV: B+
With an accumulative average of 3.4 for the year, 3.1 for all four years of highschool. Ranked 29 in my class. I did alright this year for rarely doing homework :hehe:
Next year will definately be more difficult, considering I'm starting college. I'm ready for it, though, and loking forward to it very much :)
sisqoluv 06-29-2004, 10:26 PM Next year should be mad easy, lol. I only need two classes to graduate, and only 20 credits (5/semester of passed classes). I just need to worry about AP English 4 and History (gov/eco). I won't have a first period, and most of my classes will be computer related. :D If all goes well, I should have a really good GPA.
thezeppzone 06-29-2004, 10:32 PM lol i can graduate early my senior year but i wouldnt want to, im going into 11 next year and already know what im taking my senior year so yeh....next year im taking some weird easy classes. Ummm now that i dont remember lol. US History, FST, Philosophy/Web Design, Music Theory, Wind Ensemble, Young Adults Lit/Classics Of American Lit, and of course Marching Band...the /'s are for semester classes but yeh....i should maintain my 3.5 for next year, or so i hope
*dances off*
Margo 06-29-2004, 10:54 PM I can't find my report card so I'm just trying to remember what I got.
Science A-
Algebra A-
Band A (so easy to get an A in band)
English A
Social Studies A
sisqoluv 06-29-2004, 10:55 PM I could have graduated early (last year). I'll be over credits by the time I leave. If I wanted the extra work and no AP English, then I could have found out if I could've taken those two classes in place of the electives I didn't need. Summer school helped get classes out of the way ;) However, I grew up with most of the people in my class, so I could've ditched them for another.
Lîm_Gravecryer 06-30-2004, 12:27 AM gosh, all i can do at school with my compu-skills is crack the passwords of the computers and make a website for the school-magazine = /

Lennac 06-30-2004, 04:02 AM Haven't got my final marks back but here is what I have from 1st semester combined with what I know for 2nd.

PE - 84
Tech Design - 86
Science - 68 ?
Math - 65 ?

lefty 06-30-2004, 04:19 AM dont know what my GPA is..about 4.5
But they only go to 4 ;)
Although I can't really say that, I have met people with a 4.2, but that's just not normal.
Dude128 06-30-2004, 04:27 AM But they only go to 4 ;)
I believe some schools actually use a 5 scale instead of the normal 4. they're just odd. :P
Lennac 06-30-2004, 04:27 AM Okay... what exactly is a GPA... it stands for Grade Point Average right? But what exactly does it represent and how do you calculate it? Just wondering as I'm Canadian and we don't exactly use a GPA system... that I know of anyways...
salomeyasobko 06-30-2004, 04:42 AM I believe some schools actually use a 5 scale instead of the normal 4. they're just odd. :P
a the highschool i'm going to [in august], GPAs can go up to a 4.5 because of AP classes.
ham_let 06-30-2004, 04:49 AM wait, so how do you calculate GPA from percentage?
thezeppzone 06-30-2004, 05:10 AM lalalalalala where i coem from here it goes...and since im not very fond of typing a lot and thinking right now at 1158 pm im gonna round them...the computers do .9 round up....but im lazy and tired
Percent = Letter Grade = GPA Scaling
93-100 = A = 4.000
90-92 = A- = 3.667
87-89 = B+ = 3.334
84-86 = B = 3.000
80-83 = B- = 2.667
77-79 = C+ = 2.334
74-76 = C = 2.000
70-73 = C- = 1.667
67-69 = D+ = 1.334
64-66 = D = 1.000
60-63 = D- = 0.667
57-59 = F = 0.334
0-56 = F = 0.000
What you do(for most schools anyways) is if you wanna know your gpa you take either your letter grade or your percent, apply it to that scale, you add them up and divide by the number of classes, so hers an example from my grades....
I got 2 A's, 3 A-'s, 1 B+, and 1 B-
So you take
A = 4
A = 4
A- = 3.667
A- = 3.667
A- = 3.667
B+ = 3.334
B- = 2.667
Add them up and you get 25.002
Divide that by 7 classes and you get 3.571. My computer generated gpa at school was 3.573, so its close. ive been doing this for ages just for fun on like progress reports or my own time when it doesnt show gpas on it. Basically by my opinion anything over 3.0 is good, 3.5 is real good, and 4.0 i dont know what to say, but ill never get it....so i hope that helps now that i spent 15 minutes writing it lol... :P
also here i dont know why but we have a cumulative gpa they figure but we can only find that out if we get a transcript from the guidance office.
lefty 06-30-2004, 03:19 PM Hmm, I like my 2.9 over an 83
ProfBelen 06-30-2004, 03:33 PM Well I was in 8th grade last year so my credit classes get 3 points added.
Credit Spanish - 95
Math Acc. - 97
Lang Arts - 92
Credit Alg - 95
Science - 97
Social Studies - 97
Using zepp's scale, that would be a 3.9 GPA
kittycat 06-30-2004, 06:38 PM Just got back from picking up my report card, all my marks were as I assumed... I loved some of the comments though
French 86 - comment "... understands the French language very well..." if I understand so well, how come I didn't do better? :P
Programming 100 - comment "... what can I say, you got 100% in my course."
Calculus 93 - boring comments, the usual can problem solve very well junk!
Chemistry 92 - this one's great, it says a bunch of stuff about molecular formulas and ideal gases... my parents don't have a clue what those are :P But all the science ones are like that... at the end the teacher said I was 'an excellent chemist'. *goes and does a titration... or something..*
I guess that's about 3.7 gpa using that scale, my last semester's marks would have calculated a 4 *cheer* I like my 93 average better :P
ham_let 06-30-2004, 07:33 PM yea, i hate my french mark too. LOL got something like 86, 89, 89... i wanted anywhere between 90-95 (what i tihnki ideserve..)
EDIT: anyone heard of Pre-AP? i'm taking preAP next year...
thezeppzone 06-30-2004, 07:59 PM yea, i hate my french mark too. LOL got something like 86, 89, 89... i wanted anywhere between 90-95 (what i tihnki ideserve..)
EDIT: anyone heard of Pre-AP? i'm taking preAP next year...
thats weird...i dont know why but it sounds familiar, but my school dropped a lot of AP classes next year, i was supposed to take AP Computer Science, but, since i cant now, i signed up for web design(:rofl) and philosophy, cuz i wanted to take it but didnt have room, now i do.....but yeh i heard web design isnt too hard if you know what your doing, and since i know a lot lol...shouldnt be a problem :)
sisqoluv 06-30-2004, 09:43 PM I touched on this in an earlier post, but my school weights AP grades one point higher. If you make a C in AP English, it will be calculated as a B in your GPA. I don't know how other schools do it, but that's how it is here.
I took Pre-AP English classes in 9th and 10th grade. At first it was just going to be called, "AP English I" and "AP English II", but they threw the "pre" on there right before school started and told us Pre-AP classes weren't weighted  Then, last year, I moved on to "AP English III".
I only got straight A's in elementry school, lol. Well, I guess you could count summer school. ;)
ProfBelen 06-30-2004, 09:43 PM preAP is preparing you for AP. If your are in 9 or 10 grade and plan on being in AP in 11 and 12. At least that wats it is in our school.
asouthern0 06-30-2004, 11:55 PM The hightest our school goes to is like 5.2...normal classes go up to 4.0 - then there's honor classes which are a little bit higher - then there's IB classes which are the highest. Right now I'm taking Pre-IB (IB is 11th and 12th grade)..pre IB counts as honors as far as GPA.
ham_let 07-01-2004, 01:33 AM oh boy... i am gonna fail my pre-AP courses lol
I'm going to fail Algebra... I positively LOATHE Algebra.
jessi15 07-11-2004, 04:10 PM I finally got my report card. Yucky. At least I passed all my classes. I hope I get back to my normal self next year. I'm obviously not getting any awards this time around :(
Just go here: http://www.freewebs.com/lekika/reportcard.html
jessi15 07-11-2004, 04:24 PM Sorry for the double post. According to zepp's post, my GPA is 2.2004 :lolol: I need help!!!
sebluver 07-11-2004, 05:06 PM I was so proud of my final grades, I hung them on the refridgerator. :D
Health: B+
PE Sem 2: C+ (I hardly ever changed, heh)
English: B-
US History: B
French: B
Math: B-
Science: C (wooo! instead of the D I thought I'd get)
Theatre Arts: A
Modern Design: B+
Our school doesn't do GPAs, so I can't put that down. I know it's a pretty bad thing to be proud of, but I still am. I could have done so much worse, but getting an A- on the science final pulled my quarter 4 grade up (It was a D+ and went up to a C+!), thus pulling up my final grade too.
weird girl 07-11-2004, 05:29 PM Finally got my report card.... I am very happy with the grades I got. :)
History: 100
English: 100
Life Science: 100
Pre-Algebra: 98 (This is quite shocking :P)
Bible: 100
Art: 99
Computer: 100
Intro to Spanish: 100
Beacon (music): 98
^ Wow, you must be smart. :hehe: There isn't a Bible class at my school, which I find interesting... Heh, oh well. My mom threw mine away and I don't remember my grades. Pooh.
weird girl 07-11-2004, 06:09 PM I go to a Christian school, so that's why I have Bible. :)
We had to drive to school to get my grades. The people at the scool should mail them to us. Lazy shlubs. Just kidding. :buckt:
jazzberry 07-11-2004, 06:56 PM I was supposed to pick my report card up the week after exams but the first day they were available at noon and our choir was leaving for Ottawa at 6:00 in the morning so now I either have to go to the school one day or I can be lazy and wait for them to send it to me with my time-table haha. I know I got a 90% in math but that's all I know for sure. *sigh*

For us, 5 unexcused absenses and they fail you. It doesn't matter if you can pass the exams or not, you fail. Two tardies equal an absence.
We just have letters, no plus or anything.
