View Full Version : Winamp ProfBelen 06-26-2004, 05:16 AM Hey is Winamp any good? Ive heard good and bad. Anything I should know before i dl it? anything better?(other than WMP) Dude128 06-26-2004, 06:11 AM I like it- well, I like version 2.8 :P 3.0 seems cooler, but it's slower and not everything works properly- they completely redid the program after 2.8, but since AOL (which owns it) is such a wonderful company, they forced it out on deadline even though it wasn't completely finished. I don't know if it's been updated since it was released, but last I knew (with the original 3.0), the main thing that I noticed was that the tag editor doesn't work, and if you try editing anything it will just stick garbage in it instead and it'll look funny on the playlist and stuff. but overall, I like it. when I play mp3s on my computer, it's what I use- but if you want full functionality, go for 2.8 instead of 3.0 (they still offer it for download on their site) EDIT: I just looked at their site- it hasn't been that long since I've listened to mp3s on my computer, has it? how the heck are they up to 5.03? wow, lol... :P ProfBelen 06-26-2004, 06:48 AM lol, ok. I guess il dl it then. Thanks! Lissa 06-26-2004, 12:47 PM I like it a lot :D Liz 06-26-2004, 03:41 PM I like it. I use it a lot. evil_styrofoam 06-26-2004, 04:57 PM I have it but i dont really use it that much. you should get iTunes. ii LOVE itunes kittycat 06-26-2004, 05:01 PM EDIT: I just looked at their site- it hasn't been that long since I've listened to mp3s on my computer, has it? how the heck are they up to 5.03? wow, lol... :P I think they skipped version 4 :P Version 3 was horrible, 5 is better. I wish I could find a good player that doesn't take up loads of memory though... (or maybe I just do too much at once.) zetsubou 06-26-2004, 06:42 PM Winamp's good. 5 is like a compromise between 2 and 3; it takes good things from both to make an overall really nice app. (Though...any version of Winamp > Windows Media Player, IMO.) I wish I could find a good player that doesn't take up loads of memory though... (or maybe I just do too much at once.) Have you tried foobar2000 (http://foobar2000.org)? Andybebad 06-26-2004, 06:59 PM I used to use that and shoutcast for my radio station. Havn't used it since. It was a nice program though sebluver 06-26-2004, 07:09 PM I mostly just use realplayer, the new version (version 9, is it?) is really nice, much better than the old thing. But winamp is good too, I think I have 2.91 and it's pretty sweet. ham_let 06-26-2004, 08:20 PM i use winamp, but i get a specfic warning twice after i close winamp. LOL. to this day i don't understand why the warnings popup... o_O oh well. i used to use ultra player but wheneve ri downloaded skins i got viruses LOL. Makar 06-27-2004, 05:53 PM My computer's too slow for Winamp, so I just use Windows Media Player. My friend uses Winamp though, and he really likes it. You can install all sorts of features for it too I guess, including this particular one he showed me not too long ago. I was talking to him through AIM, and he typed in "Winamp play Scatman" and it started to play the song, and when he typed "Winamp stop" it stopped. It was so cool! You could type those commands anywhere in any application and Winamp picks up on them. lefty 06-27-2004, 06:16 PM I still use v. 2.9 :P But it's amazing, I don't really use anything else. ProfBelen 06-28-2004, 12:11 AM What are some good skins? I like small ones that are convenient, but useful. Monkey Bizzle 06-28-2004, 01:09 AM there is also a program similar to winamp called sonique... it is skinnable and everything... www.sonique.com (http://www.sonique.com) Arc Angel 06-28-2004, 05:38 AM WINAMP is probably my favourite. =) salomeyasobko 06-28-2004, 06:00 AM i use winamp and i like it a lot! i use windows media player once in a while if i'm burning a CD but i think winamp's the best :P ProfBelen 06-28-2004, 03:21 PM Does anyone have any skins suggestions for winamp? Like i said before i like small ones that are useable but compact! Thanks! chrishawthorne 06-29-2004, 04:44 AM I used to use that and shoutcast for my radio station. Havn't used it since. It was a nice program though Yes, I use Shoutcast with my radio station, works quite nicely. I do recommend that users use Winamp to listen, but you can use any player, by using certain codes (which i implement on my site). Winamp 5.03 is my fav so far. I run it on a 700 mhz comp with 256 mb ram , and on my 2 ghz machine with 224 mb ram, works fine with both. By far, the most useful player ever. |
