View Full Version : How are you schooled? orangespin 06-19-2004, 12:55 AM i go to public school and it's ok but i don't want to go to privat because its like 99.99999 percent sure that u'll wear uniforms (yuck) westernrider 06-19-2004, 01:00 AM you got schooled like a student! haha... just had to say that um I am not trying to do any back seat moding... but you shouldn't post three of the same threads... if you were not sure how to make a poll you could have asked :D but anyways... just so you know :) I love going to public schools. It is more "free" in a way... I would not like to be homeschooled because I would never get to see my friends. orangespin 06-19-2004, 01:07 AM sorry, i was making one but i made a mistake and went back to change something and i guess it got made any way. I don't know how to delete it do you? webgirl 06-19-2004, 01:37 AM I went to a private school but i'm going to a public school after summer is over. Dude128 06-19-2004, 01:56 AM I went to a public high school, and I'll be going to a public college in August :P orangespin 06-19-2004, 02:34 AM cool. wat is the difference between public college and private college? arent they all the same? Dude128 06-19-2004, 02:40 AM public schools get funding from the state or whatever they're located in (outside the US), so they're usually quite a bit cheaper. the school I'm going to receives funding from the state of Pennsylvania, and the cost is like $12,000/year less than the good private schools. and it would be another $9,000/year or so less if I was a Pennsylvania resident. also, there are schools affiliated with one state university or something (I'm not even sure how exactly it works)- for example, there are a whole bunch of schools scattered around New York State that are all part of the State University of New York (SUNY). plus there are also community colleges and such, which in NY are also part of the SUNY system and get all sorts of public funding. all I know is that the school I'm going to gets money from PA, but it's not part of Penn State. from there, I have no idea how they're whole college system works :P dolce shanti 06-19-2004, 03:23 AM I'm homeschooled...I have been from the beginning! ;) Owlie42 06-19-2004, 03:54 AM Public School! And 95% of the people in it need to be smacked! 45% need to be worse than smacked. elfenheroin 06-19-2004, 08:08 AM I'm in homeschool for about 5 years in a row... I actually fear the outside world. .__. Lissa 06-19-2004, 11:45 AM I just graduated from high school, but my school was a public school which was privately funded :D Up until 6th grade I went to private school, and in the fall I'm going to a public college. HermioneLovegoo 06-19-2004, 01:52 PM How do you make a poll... sorry if its off-topic. lefty 06-19-2004, 02:00 PM I go to a private University, but went to a public high school ;) kittycat 06-19-2004, 02:38 PM Catholic separate school, I don't like it 'cause we have wayyyy too many school masses :P sjb 06-19-2004, 02:38 PM I'm in a public school now but i used to go to a private school jazzberry 06-19-2004, 03:00 PM I'm in a public high school. (half offtopic) I don't see what's wrong with uniforms, it's one less hassle in the morning. I waste so much time trying to figure out what to wear lol sebluver 06-19-2004, 04:10 PM Public school. I'm looking up boarding schools in various other countries than the US (for many reasons, if you want to know just ask), but in order to go there my mum says I have to find some way to get funding, or a scholarship. jessi15 06-19-2004, 04:56 PM I go to a public high school, but I have always wanted to do homeschool. I just didn't have anyone to teach me. I only have one year left though. stargrl329 06-19-2004, 05:04 PM Public school all my life.. my mom wants me to go to a Catholic high school next year, but I'm just going public. (Not that there's anything wrong with Catholic school, I wouldn't mind it actually, its just the one that she picked is quite cruddy.) Monkey Bizzle 06-19-2004, 06:18 PM I went to a private school when i was in Preschool but then k-12 was public but we had to wear uniforms at my middle school. i was in eight at the time that they made that rule so it wasn't that bad but the rule is still in effect. i go to a public college now... Liz 06-19-2004, 06:20 PM home orangespin 06-19-2004, 10:41 PM i thought there would be more ppl private schooled. there's a lot of home-schooled kids (where i live i dont see many but I meet most people at school so...). No one in boarding school. i went to a private preschool and now my parents want me to go to a private middle school. Cherchezlafemme 06-19-2004, 10:43 PM i've gone to private school and public school bubblegummy 06-20-2004, 07:51 AM I go to a private school, and yes, I have to wear a uniform. It's brown and green :D evil_styrofoam 06-20-2004, 03:54 PM Private Schools rock. we get really good cafeteria food and other stuff that public schools dont have. orangespin 06-20-2004, 04:18 PM private schools sound cool but i have to wear uniforms n e way because in 7th grade (not next year) i have 2 go to a different jr high. i do not want to wear uniforms because if i can't choose my clothes, cant i atleast keep it not tucked in (in 7th grade u have 2 tuck in ur shirt)! maybe i should put this in ranting... Penguin_Otaku 06-20-2004, 04:29 PM No offense to anyone, but my general opinion of public schools is rich kids who get everything handed to them, and think they're better than everyone. I mean this probably isn't true for a majority, but I don't know. I've been in public my whole life and really wouldn't want it any other way. Homeschooling doesn't prepare you for the outside world, you don't have all those conflicts with people and you don't work them out, either. Monkey Bizzle 06-21-2004, 02:06 AM No offense to anyone, but my general opinion of public schools is rich kids who get everything handed to them, and think they're better than everyone. i thought that was private school... sebluver 06-21-2004, 03:55 AM i thought that was private school... That's what I thought, too. Because, call me crazy, but don't you have to pay for private and boarding schools? Public schools are free (and often not so nice). So why rich kids would be crowding to get there is beyond me. They certainly wouldn't want to go to our high school. The last time the renevated it was in 1972, when they added the pool. Nothing else since then, I don't think they've even painted a wall. Not to mention, the lockers are 4 inches wide, but I think that's pretty standard? But we're getting a new addition (in 7 years), woo. westernrider 06-21-2004, 04:00 AM Not to mention, the lockers are 4 inches wide, but I think that's pretty standard? heck... my public school doesn't even have lockers :P... there are too many kids so there are not enough lockers for all of us... we have to carry around EVERYTHING in our backpacks Dude128 06-21-2004, 04:21 AM Private Schools rock. we get really good cafeteria food and other stuff that public schools dont have. ok, so maybe YOUR private school "rocks". my school (public) was recognized as having one of the best food service programs (I believe it was based on variety of food, setup [food court style], kitchen cleanliness, etc.) in New York State a few years back. not all private schools are all that good- my cousin went to a Catholic school, and he pretty much hated it (as do a number of people that go there/used to go there). according to what he's said to me, the school is pretty much poor- they don't get the state funding like a public school does and the tuition doesn't make up the difference. in order to get enough money from tuition, it would be outrageously high and very few people would go there. it's located in a renovated IBM building, and it pretty much even looks bad- my public school isn't the nicest either (especially the part of the building that's 40 years old), but I'd rather go to a school that looks well maintained. among public schools, mine is decent. most of the building is about 5 years old, because they spent somewhere in the range of $40 million to add on to the existing school and to combine the former 2 campuses (it was divided into 9th and 10th grades at south campus and 11th and 12th at north- now everyone is at what was north campus). unlike private schools, it's large, so it can offer more things to the students- plenty of variety in classes, clubs, and sports. somewhere in the range of 550-600 computers, 4 cafeterias, 7 gyms (had voters approved a pool when it the addition was built, there would be 6 gyms plus the pool), a number of computer labs, large library/media center, decent lockers (all 3600 of them), the list goes on. it's certainly better than the local private Catholic school. -=[Lauren]=- 06-21-2004, 04:24 AM Well at the School's I've been to here in Australia, I was made wear a uniform every year. And also we didn't have lockers at all. lefty 06-21-2004, 04:58 AM Maybe colleges are different, but my [private] school has some pretty bad cafeteria food. :P I mean maybe I shouldn't complain because at least it's edible, and it doesn't make me sick all the time, but still... At least you only have to eat it for lunch, maybe breakfast, but imagine eating caf food all the time. :P Dude128 06-21-2004, 05:15 AM Maybe colleges are different, but my [private] school has some pretty bad cafeteria food. :P I mean maybe I shouldn't complain because at least it's edible, and it doesn't make me sick all the time, but still... heh, I've only tasted a small portion of my college's food, but if all else fails, I'll be eating Pizza Hut all the time. yay for having a Pizza Hut on campus :P plus there's at least one Starbuck's (I think more), and a Chick-Fil-A (which I've never had). so I'm ahead of my brother's school, the food service at which consists of one cafeteria. and that's it. :P I have cafeteria food plus the other places I mentioned, in a whole bunch of different facilities, two of which are in the lobby of the building I'll probably be living in. yay! :P weird girl 06-21-2004, 06:04 AM I've been in a private school all my life. My parents have a vendetta against public schools. I really like it, except for the stupid uniforms. -=[Lauren]=- 06-21-2004, 08:22 AM Uniforms have their advantages though. They make all the students more equal. Like what if someone went to school with brand new clothes on that were worth like $100's and someone else showed up in second hand stuff that wasn't worth much, It might make the poorer person feel bad. So instead of wearing different stuff it makes the students more equal :) dolce shanti 06-21-2004, 12:28 PM Homeschooling doesn't prepare you for the outside world, you don't have all those conflicts with people and you don't work them out, either. Not accurate :) There are many misunderstandings that people have about homeschoolers... 1) They have no social life. For most homeschoolers, that is untrue. I bet that I have more friends then some public/private schoolers have! I meet a ton of friends at choir, writing class, etc....my family takes many outside classes. 2) It doesn't prepare you for the outside world. That is a myth as well :) At least, it is true for my family, and many other families that I have seen and know. This last semester was packed with stress as I began my first year of high school. I had to write a screenplay for one class I was taking...I literally finished it the morning of class. I also had to write many papers, and at the end of the year an 8-10 page paper. There are so many other myths that I can tell you are not true...however, I have to begin school (yes...we are doing school during the first half of summer!) so I gotta go! God bless! Lissa 06-21-2004, 02:40 PM =-']Uniforms have their advantages though. They make all the students more equal. The rich kids just carry more expensive purses (the 500-1000 dollar variety) and have more expensive shoes and jewelry from Tiffanys. Private school kids compete just as much as public school kids, they just do it in different ways. Monkey Bizzle 06-22-2004, 12:06 AM heh, I've only tasted a small portion of my college's food, but if all else fails, I'll be eating Pizza Hut all the time. yay for having a Pizza Hut on campus :P plus there's at least one Starbuck's (I think more), and a Chick-Fil-A (which I've never had). so I'm ahead of my brother's school, the food service at which consists of one cafeteria. and that's it. :P I have cafeteria food plus the other places I mentioned, in a whole bunch of different facilities, two of which are in the lobby of the building I'll probably be living in. yay! :P that sounds like the college i went too!!! i bet a lot of them have pizza hut and starbuskc on campus tho... are you going to ODU by any chance?? Chick Fil A is SOOOO good. They have the best chicken! salomeyasobko 06-22-2004, 12:25 AM i am publicly schooled :D weird girl 06-22-2004, 02:26 AM I wore uniforms up until 5th grade. Private school kids compete just as much as public school kids, they just do it in different ways. This is so very true. At our school we get to wear whatever kind of shoes we want (except flip flops, and boys can't wear any sandals at all :P), and often kids were made fun of because they didn't have the cool insanely expensive shoes. Dude128 06-22-2004, 03:36 AM are you going to ODU by any chance?? nope :P I visited Hofstra University on Long Island, NY and I know they specifically mentioned that they have like 4 Starbucks on campus. that's why I'm pretty sure my school must have more- it's actually in a populated place and has far more students (although I don't know how many a place like Hofstra has- but I'm going to a large school :P). or if there aren't more Starbucks literally on campus, there must be more very close, because the campus is right in the middle of a city... MysteryP 06-27-2004, 06:08 AM My school's public but on gym days we have to use a uniform (or at least blue sweats). But I live in Argentina, so every day we have to use a thing that's really like a lab coat to school anyway. Owlie42 06-28-2004, 02:28 AM i thought that was private school...
