i would think that if you werent actually offering it out for people it would be okay to play music on your website.. but i really dont know the rules about music and pirating and everything..

i don't think so. i think you are probably safe from getting "caught" if you don't have a very high traffiked (sp) site. if however, an "important" person comes across your site and they don't want their music or whatever on your site, then they would prolly say remove it. The reason is is cause anyone can download your music by veiwing the source and getting the file name and typing it into the browser window...

let's say you have a .... metallica... song on your site (sorry if you don't like metallica!!). important people would be the band themselves, anyone who represents them like their lawyers and managers and stuff, and anyone in the RIAA or whatever it's called. basically, anyone who has the power to sue you or take action for using that song. but, if your site is just personal and you aren't just saying HEY TAKE MY SONG FILES then the worst that would happen if those people even came across your site is that they would ask you to please not use that song anymore. bottom line, i don't think you have anything to worry about.

yeah, you could maybe put a disclaimer on your site and say that this isn't for people to take or something like that

I think it is illeage to have artist such as metillca or britney spears's songs on your site without their permission becuz my teacher once told me that a school put good charllots song on their school website and they got sued but good charllot. so i guess that means unless its truely your own song you cant put it on your site unless you got the artists permission. Im not sure though just saying what my teacher told me hope that helps!

In New York State, it's illegal to talk on a hand held cell phone while driving, and people do it. stealing is illegal and people do it. distributing music on any size site and at any quality is illegal- just because people do it doesn't mean it's alright.

I really don't think a disclaimer would fly. "I know I'm doing something illegal by having music on my site, but don't take it"- it just sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? (if not, it should)
