View Full Version : Tablet - A Graphic Designer's Best Friend
Makar 06-11-2004, 08:49 AM I don't know how many people here use tablets or have heard of Wacom (http://www.wacom.com)'s products, but I just received my Intuos2 6x8 and I love it to death!
Making graphics for my site is going to be so much easier now; check out what I just sketched (http://melicbot.com/images/oldfarmer.jpg) in OpenCanvas 1.1 using the colour black, the tablet's pressure sensitivity, and the grip pen's eraser. As you can see I'm having major issues with contrast, but with much practise I could very well be making professional-quality images, perhaps even start an online commission business of some sort. So exciting!
I'd definitely recommend the Intuos2 to anyone interested in graphic design or who just likes to draw and make images for their website. They may be a little pricey but they're definitely worth it. ;)
jessi15 06-11-2004, 01:00 PM My school board is getting iMacs for all the students, but the private school near us is gettting them those tablet things.
P.S. Cool sketch :)

The one I got was actually $300, which is good for the 6x8 since they recently lowered the price, but it still seemed to take forever to save up for. :buckt:

I know! I wish I had known about Wacom before Christmas, not to mention my birthday, because my parents kept asking me what I wanted and I had no idea. I mean, I knew tablets existed but I had no idea what they were called and who made them at the time. They are definitely the most niftly little tool I've come across.
SSPrincess 06-12-2004, 06:53 PM Lucky you! I want one of those things! *Is jealous, very jealous*Same here. I would definately love to have one!!! Though currenly me funds are somewhat dry...
*pokes empty pockets*
Ahh well...hopefully getting a job this summer will help out with that problem...$$$
horse*chica 06-12-2004, 08:36 PM I've heard of the Wacom tablets, and did want one for oh...maybe five minutes. Not because of the price (which I doubt my parents would be happy about, haha), but mainly because I have zero artistic talent aside from computer graphics...I can't freehand draw at all. That is a cute sketch you did of the farmer *applauds*
Vicki. 06-13-2004, 12:19 PM I definitely wanted one of those for awhile now but I haven't had time yet to convince my dad to take me to CompUSA to buy one :(
salomeyasobko 06-13-2004, 07:59 PM ahhhhhhh i want that more than anything!!!!! well... almost more than anything
how much are they? i can't seem to find the price on the website. do you think it'd be reliable to buy one on ebay or something?
salomeyasobko 06-13-2004, 08:15 PM nevermind i see it's 200 for the smallest one  my mommy said i can't have it for my bday :( but i might be able to get flash :o
has anyone purchased/heard of flash programs that come with a drawing pad? or do all of them come with that? because i always see flash movies with graphics that look like people could only draw them by hand. so, can anyone provide a website for it? thanks :D
Makar 06-14-2004, 04:17 AM do you think it'd be reliable to buy one on ebay or something?
I checked them out on Ebay when I first heard about them, but it was all resellers selling for the exact same price, and the shipping was more expensive than Wacom's ten dollar handling fee. As for the Flash thing, I'm sure many people use tablets for making their movies and such, but Wacom doesn't include any Flash software with their tablets. The one I got came with Painter Classic and Photoshop Elements 2.0, and some brush tools. I have used the tablet in Flash though. Pretty spiffy. :D
Oller 06-15-2004, 05:24 AM I have a wacom intuos 2.0 as well, but mine is 9x7 or something; it's very large. Anyway, yes, I definately think if you are a moderatly good artist and thinking about selling graphics online, it's definately worth it. It is much easier than scanner a picture and it's easy to color. i actually lost the little thing that you use to draw with that goes inside the pen and i can't find my replacements, so i draw with the eraser side; i'm curios, how did you get OC to work with the eraser side and pen pressure? i couldn't figure that out.
Luzee12 06-15-2004, 09:17 AM Hi everybody! I have a tablet, too; I think it's 6 x 8. It's much bigger than I expected it to be. I find it really useful for blending images, when I erase the sides . . . and for drawing. But I'm not really very good at that. Yet. I think it's worth the price, though, if you are talented enough to do something with it. I mean, have you seen the CG art available on the web? Artists who do things like that mostly use Wacom tablets, as far as I've heard.
Oller, you can order spare parts from Wacom here:

I dunno if you want to, it's just that I'd hate to lose my pen tip.
