Music on a website or Xanga page helps to enhance it or just make a lot nicer. However, finding music on the web can be tricky if you don't know what to do, so here's a little guide on how to do just that:
1.) Figure out what song/music you want on your page. You may want to pick a second song/piece of music just in case you can't get or find the first song.
2.) Find out what the name of the song/music is and the artist who performs it. Make sure that you have the correct name and artist, or it will be harder to find the music later on.
3.) If for a website, find out what you are allowed to upload as well as where you can use the music file. Some sites may not allow you to upload certain files or direct linking.
If for Xanga or if your site does not allow you to upload the desired music file, look on a search engine like Google or Yahoo or do a search here on LEIA for sites that allow you to upload music files and let you direct link as well.
4.) After you know what you can upload/have a place to upload your music file, do a search on search engines like previously mentioned Google or Yahoo for the music you want. When searching use:
-the name of the song/music (*put the name of the song in the search like this to make sure that you get the correct song =>"Name of Song"
*)
-the name of the performer
-the type of file you want
Some songs are not on the internet, so at times, you will not be able to get the song in the file you want or you just won't be able to get it. In such case, pick another song and try again.
5.) After you have found the song you want, make sure that it's okay to download the music file. After you have downloaded it to your computer, upload it to your site or whatever place you found to upload your music.
6.) Put the music on your website/Xanga page. Lissa has a little section on her site (http://www.lissaexplains.com/fun4.shtml#music) with codes that will allow you to put music on your site/page in a variety of different ways.
7.) Visit your page and make sure the music is working correctly. If you don't hear anything, check to see if the sound is turned off on your computer. If it is not turned off then make sure that you have the correct code and that you put it where it is supposed to be.
Just to make sure that this isn't confusing, here's an example:
I wanted to put the song that I thought was called "A Thousand Miles" on my website.
First, I made sure that that was the correct name of the song, and after I find out that it was, I looked to see who performed it and learned that it was Vanessa Carlton.
Second, I checked to see what I was allowed to upload. Since I was using Angelfire, I found out that I could upload and use .midi but not mp3. Also, since I was going to the file on my Angelfire site, I didn't need to worry about direct linking, which Angelfire does not allow.
Next, I went to Google and put:
"A Thousand Miles" "Vanessa Carlton" .midi
into the search bar. Then, after searching around a little, I found a site that allowed me to download "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton for free, so I downloaded it onto my computer.
After I went back to Angelfire and uploaded the file, I went to the page of Lissa's that I mentioned in step 6, got the code I wanted, and used that code to put music on my website.
Lastly, I checked the page with the music, and happily heard it playing.
Hopefully this guide will make it a lot easier to get music for a website/Xanga page.
If you have a question not answered here (like you want a certain code to make the music/song play a certain way), then search the forum first to see if somebody else asked that question and if it was answered. Otherwise, you should have no trouble getting and putting music where you want it. :)
