View Full Version : Immunizations... Bah.
Sometime soon I'm going to have to go to the doctor to get a DPT shot... :grouch: I HATE shots. *bangs head on table* Stupid immunizations. Oh well. At least (I think?) it's not like the Hepatitis B shots I had to get a couple years ago where they give you THREE!
Cherchezlafemme 05-29-2004, 08:19 PM I like shots cos the nurse that gives me my shots for Flu has a really good hand and you cant even feel them at all :D
I used to hate shots too they hurt until they got that nurse to do them
Demented 05-29-2004, 08:26 PM  Yea, I got my Hep B shots this year. Although, they only gave us 2 becuase they upped te dosage on them. They weren't that bad to get, but I don't realy like needles.
MaGiCSuN 05-29-2004, 10:00 PM I like shots cos the nurse that gives me my shots for Flu has a really good hand and you cant even feel them at all :D
that's what they told me too, when they gave me the stereoshot when i was like ... 10? or something... From that moment on i don't believe those people anymore :P
Munchkin 05-29-2004, 10:45 PM i hate needles *shiver* last summer i stepped on a piece of shell on vacation but i didn't notice it (i thought i had a splinter), but then a week later (back home) it started hurting. my mom took me to the docter, and he gave me a shot in the foot to numb it so he could attack it with tweezers (not exactly, but my impression). :crying: jeez, that hurt so much, i was crying my head off like a baby, lol...after some deep digging in my foot (eck) he uncovered a miniscule little piece of shell. :\ he bandaged up my foot and i hobbled around for a week.
even looking at needles scare me.
Dude128 05-30-2004, 03:18 AM I don't know why some people hate shots so much. I don't really mind them :P
speaking of which, I have to get some immunization thing for mengingolocotitisosisness or something before I go away to school. yay for PA state law :P
Owlie42 05-30-2004, 03:50 AM Tetanus shots....OW! They put it into the muscle...on your arm. So you really can't use your arm too much for the rest of the day.
salomeyasobko 05-30-2004, 06:38 AM i hate shots too!! needles hurt  the other day, i had to go to the hospital because i have stomach problems so the doctors were trying to figure out what's wrong with me and they took a blood test.. i was very very unhappy about that! and so finally when it was time to take it i though "ahh whatever it won't be that bad" but then the nurse man said they were putting the needle in my inner-elbow-ish-area!!! ahhhh! i thought it would be in my shoulder-area! so then they drew two canisters of blood for tests  it hurt, and i felt very tired after. i didn't even get a sticker :(
Dude128 05-30-2004, 07:20 AM the inner elbow-ish area is where they usually take blood- they usually only put stuff into you in the shoulder :P
when I donated blood it came out of my inner elbow area, one time I had a bunch of blood tests done and they took like 3 vile things of blood from that area also. one time when I was in the hospital they took blood a couple times, and I know at least once it was from there. luckily I have really good veins in terms of being able to find them though... unlike my mom- she always complains because they have to stick her several times and fish around in order to get anything. with me, they can stick the needle right in and the blood comes flowing out- which now that I think about it, may or may not be a good thing :P
floating_bore 05-30-2004, 10:29 AM I don't get it... why do they hurt? Everytime I get a shot I hardly feel anything. =/
evil_styrofoam 05-30-2004, 10:29 PM I don't get it... why do they hurt? Everytime I get a shot I hardly feel anything. =/
Ditto. I used to be scared but now they dont hurt anymore. All my friends were like, "THE HEBITIOUS (sp?) SHOT HURTS LIKE THERES NO TOMORROW!!" etc etc. Then I got the shot and it didnt hurt at all...
ham_let 05-30-2004, 10:57 PM i didn't hafta get hep b shots last year! w00t! i got them when i was a baby... =)
as for flu shots... i don't take them. b/c everytime you get a flu shot the flu virus get even stronger.. i bet in around 5 years we'll have to invent a new flu shot... that's also why my teacher hates lysol.. b/c germs keep getting stronger if we keep making challenges for them... hehe
Demented 05-30-2004, 11:30 PM  Yea, my friend didn't have to get the Hep B shot either, becuase he got it when he was a baby. I get the flu shot, just to be safe =\
Sugar Rush 05-30-2004, 11:35 PM Shots don't bother me. I don't like watching the needle though. But if I look away, I don't feel a thing. I haven't had a shot in a loooong while...
Rosey 05-31-2004, 12:22 AM i hate needles but some nurses do a better job than other nurses...
I had to get a shot in my tigh when i was pregnant cause i'm rh - so i could have killed michaela although odds are slim for a first child but that shot BURNT and hurt like you wouldn't believe!! It was SO painful. THen i had to have another one after she was born too but thankfully I didn't feel that one, I think I still had some pain meds going in me..hehe.
Tetanus hurt, I don't remember the hep one hurting..
I think i need boosters :grouch:
ham_let 05-31-2004, 12:56 AM what's rh?
I had to get my hep B shots when I was in 5th grade. I almost had to get the first one on my bday but I persuaded my mom not to, and got it about 2 days after. That one didn't hurt, but the other two were done by another nurse. I don't think she liked me though cause she stuck the needle in my arm and kept it there for a bit and then when she took it out it hurt like phooey. :P So I just hope it's not her who does this DPT one...
Btw does anyone know what DPT IS?! On the sheet the school nurse gave me, it looks like I got it already in '94, which is when I got all my others except hep B, and DPT is the only one I need; but not the others. :confusion The school nurse is evil though... she probably just wants me to have to get a shot. :(
Rosey 05-31-2004, 02:41 AM definition: abbreviation for combination vaccine against diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough) and tetanus toxoids;
rh is the sign of your blood, negative or positive....i have negative blood, A- if you are rh - and your baby i rh + your body can produce antibodies against the + blood and then when you get pregnant again, you run the risk of killing your baby off. The shot prevents you from making those antibodies.
ham_let 05-31-2004, 03:12 AM oh i c. thx for filling me in.
Rosey 05-31-2004, 04:08 AM no prob, i'm a science major ;)
CatsHorsesLuver 05-31-2004, 11:42 PM I don't like shots. Never liked them, and I don't think I ever will. lol. That about sums it up.
psychochick 06-02-2004, 02:31 AM *shudder* I hate needles... i have a bad, ad phobia of them. I had to get a blood test friday, and I started crying because I hate needles so much. I had to bring a The Casualties CD and play it full blast on my headphones to try and distract myself. but, my dad let me have pizza for lunch, and I got a new CD, which made me happier.
And I was suspended from school, and in science were doing an HIV/AIDS class, so while I got to be poked at with a needle and try to pee in a little cup, they got to sit there and learn about se.xually transmitted diseases... I'd prefer that over being poked at with a needle and attempting to pee in a cup
oh, the reason I had to get poked at by a needle is because I have symtoms of adolescent depression, so my counsellor suggested I go to a doctor about it, and the causes of adolescent depression are sicknesses like anemia, which I also have symtoms of. But it was OK in the end, because I'm not anemic, which means I don't have depression, which means no more blood tests!!!! (for now)
<edit> and the nurse was so mean :( when I told her I have a phobia of needles, she said, oh, I'll use the baby needle. that was mean. and she never tyold me when she took the needle out, and it felt like it was still there.
salomeyasobko 06-02-2004, 02:51 AM they used the "baby" needle for me, which seemed thicker than the regular ones :grouch:
Dude128 06-02-2004, 03:14 AM But it was OK in the end, because I'm not anemic, which means I don't have depression, which means no more blood tests!!!! (for now)
the exact cause of depression isn't even known. it's definately possible to have depression without being anemic. for me, the first thing I did was have a full physical and run all sorts of blood tests, and there was nothing physically wrong, but I was diagnosed with depression...

oh, I forgot to mention, I was being tested for adolescent depression, and most of the causes for that are blood problems, like anemia ;)
They thought I was anemic 'cause I had these little white things in the back of my throat. But they tested me and found 'twas just tonsillitis. :P
I gotta get my DPT shot Tuesday @ 1. :grouch: Bah, stupid shots.
Dude128 06-03-2004, 04:42 PM yeah, I was put on medication, and it seems to have helped quite a bit.
hmm, I thought depression was depression, and adolescent depression was just depression in younger people. learn something new every day :)
Chris 06-03-2004, 05:03 PM I don't mind injections as long as they are short needles.....I can't do big ones!
Thanks
Chris

Sometimes it's a problem with the chemical levels in your brain. Meds can help bring those back to normal.
SizzZzlinhair 06-03-2004, 09:20 PM I always say that I *hate* needles, and I do, but something that I definitely stress before getting a shot is the pain. I normally can't keep from watching the needle go into me, and thats just gross, and then I'll make so much of a big deal out of it when it's not as bad as I made it out to be. Don't get me wrong though... when I went to get my 13 year old shots it was horrible because I had to get all these shots at once, but it still wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
I get like that every single November, just before getting the flu shot! But then I go and its like a lil pinch. What a coward I am. :P
Rosey 06-04-2004, 12:57 AM i know it's not going to hurt but i still stress over it too. And it's just a pinch but i get so nervous and can't sit still..and i'm "all grown up".
I can't watch it though, I get woozy if i do...i'm a real sissy.
The nurse who gave it to me did it wrong or something... I got it Tuesday and it STILL hurts... I can't move my arm. :(
Rosey 06-11-2004, 09:40 PM some shots can make your arm real sore.
Yeah, that's true... it's just odd because no shot I've EVER gotten has hurt so much for so long. :( It is getting a bit better though. :D
kicker91 06-12-2004, 07:07 PM I got the tetanus(sp?) booster yesterday. It hurts like heck right now, probably because I sleep on my side. =X
Rosey 06-12-2004, 07:38 PM yeah tetanus is the worst i think when it come to soreness. You get sore for sure with that one.
Yup, and I think that might be what I got... Dunno. If DPT is dyptheria pertussis and tetanus, and I got TD, then that'd be tetanus and dyptheria... that explains why it hurt so bad.
Is there a vaccination for hep C? If there is I haven't had that yet. And apparently there are not only hep A B & C, but also D E & F... we were talkin' 'bout it at my grandma's house today.
