sisqoluv 04-17-2004, 08:02 PM I know many people are from outside the US, but :D

Demented 04-17-2004, 08:09 PM Thats weird, but interesting that you can be healthier in different states. I wonder if there's one for Canada :confusion Lol.
salomeyasobko 04-17-2004, 08:10 PM i wonder why mississippi's last?! i'm also ranked at #14, californ-eye-aye :buckt: many of the "best" states are not very densely populated, so it's not, of course, entirely accurate. either way, i'm moving to new hampshire!

It cant be accurate. I havent been sick in like a year. there is no way that can be accurate
bourdelson 04-17-2004, 08:17 PM 25. Michigan. Last year: 28
Yeah, Michigizzle! We just barely made the top 50% of the country!
Rinoa Heartilly 04-17-2004, 08:38 PM Wooo! #14! Not bad. I've noticed that the lower part of the health ladder are states that are generally characterized as the "country" type of states. Don't take it the wrong way! It's just an observation. I used to live in Mississippi until a few years ago so I've got nothing against those states.
Neptune 04-17-2004, 08:58 PM Erm... just saying my state didn't do so good o_o
sisqoluv 04-17-2004, 10:17 PM states lol 500 th post!! yay! i get an avatar now, lyke omg!

The town you live in also makes a difference. The air in my town is really great, however, LA is also in Cali... I'm sure my town is healthier than some town in New Hampshire, but there's many factors to consider.
They also looked at factors that weren't just concering with you being sick or not. Death rate, Suicide rate, Percentage of adults who are obese, etc are just to name a few :D
many of the "best" states are not very densely populated, so it's not, of course, entirely accurate.
A population is more likely to get sick (if it's something that can be passed on) if the population desity is high (germs, bacteria, etc don't have to go to far to reach the next person).
However, they did consider "Percent of children age 19-35 months who got all their recommended vaccinations", "Beds in community hospitals per 100,000 population", "Percentage of mothers getting late or no prenatal care", "Percentage of population not covered by health insurance", "Percentage of population without access to primary care" and "State spending on health care as a percentage of gross state product".
So, a state with a high population density may have better healthcare then states with low population desitys... I guess, lol. I think Women's Day magazine had an article like this not too long ago. It was the healthiest cities and states for women to live.
Makar 04-17-2004, 11:01 PM Hey, I live in New Hampshire. I guess I can't get any more healthy than I already am. :P

sisqoluv 04-17-2004, 11:11 PM But I do have a crippling weakness for unhealthy foods..
 You're not the only one... Maybe that explains why my state is a few steps below yours?
*just finished an Oreos ice cream cone*

salomeyasobko 04-17-2004, 11:36 PM you know, there may be lots of pregnant teens / suicides or something you wouldn't really expect like that ;)

Guess I don't want to live in Mississippi.
Dude128 04-19-2004, 02:33 AM New York: 33, Last year: 33
I hate NY :P
but it's probably mainly because of New York City and the PCB-rific Hudson River :P
hey, but my health situation should improve over the next 4 years, I'll be in the number 26 state :P plus I'll be surrounded by hospitals (in fact, the medical center where I'll be in is the number 1 employer in the entire city, and it's a reasonably large city :P)
LesPaul59 04-23-2004, 12:10 AM w00t Dan you're coming to my state? Sa-WEET. hehe

Dude128 04-23-2004, 03:52 PM w00t Dan you're coming to my state? Sa-WEET. hehe
Well we do have Philadelphia XD.
well I'll be going to school in an old steel/industrial city (which probably gives it away lol), so maybe that doesn't count :P
LesPaul59 04-24-2004, 06:15 AM haha there's a few of them, mostly in the north...the town doesn't happen to start with the letter W, would it? Or near it, in that case? W-B.
Dude128 04-24-2004, 04:50 PM no, it's not Wilkes-Barre :P I pass throught W-B though on my way to the destination, and it didn't strike me as an industrial-type area. maybe all the smokestakes and stuff are hidden behind hills away from the interstate? :P
and it's not in the north :P (see, I thought this city was considered like the [perhaps former- it's changed quite a bit, supposedly, although I was never there when it was :P] industrial city in PA. oh well :P)
and even if I were to identify the city, nobody would know what school it is. there are a bunch of schools in that particular city :P
but anyway, I'll give a hint: it claims to have more than 700 bridges.
SizzZzlinhair 04-24-2004, 05:05 PM Ohh look I'm healthy..
