I think you need to type the whole of the url and not just gigh.gif..

i see a white color background with a green grid image background in the center.

I see the same thing as pb&j...two white columns and a green and black grid background in the center.

If you're trying to get the image in all three columns, try putting background-image:url("bg1.gif"); either in the body section of your CSS, or in #left and #right as well as keeping it in #center.

Also, are you sure that you have the image uploaded correctly, and in the same directory as your HTML files?

doesn't exist, sorry.
Make sure you named it correctly, make sure it is actually a GIF and not a jpg or png and make sure its in the same directory (folder) that you sid it should be.
