I saw this tutorial for photoshop, and decided to try it in psp8, and it worked! So here it is!

1) Open up a new image. (* I opened up mine to 450 by 550*) but you can do it whatever size.

2) Now use your freehand tool. Use the "point to point" tool. Make a weird shape that you want.

3) Now fill it with the gradient (or colour) then deselect.

4) Now go to "Effects" - "Distortion" - "Wave".

5) Now duplicate the layers as many times as you want.

6) Now go to "Effects" - "Distortion" - "Twirl" set it to 90 degrees.

Voila...your done!! You can colorize it if you want as well! :)

For step '6' I, instead, did Effects>>Distortion>>Polar Coordinates. It still has that wierd 'smokey' look, but it's a bit more warped. I had the settings on 'Rectangular to Polar' and I clicked on the 'Transparent' option.
