backgrounds cannot have image maps on them :)

i think what the person means is that you need to give more info on what kind of background. A tiled background, or a repeat horizontally background... there are so many backgrounds, there isn't just one way to learn it. There are many ways :)

no, for an image map you have to use an image in an <img> tag :)

basically, making a background is really easy. Just make it like this:

------------------
||||
||||
||||
------------------

(--- = end and beginning of image, so no line)

then you repeat it vertically and you will get a few lines on the left of your page :)

what about opening psp and do it ? if you don't take action yourself it will not get very far either...

i don't know how to be more clear. Just put a few vertical lines on an image that has the size 100x10. save it, and put this in your css:

<style type="text/css">
<!--
body { background-image: url(imageurlhere.gif); background-repeat: repeat-y; }
-->
</style>

between the <head> and </head> Now the background will go down, and the lines will repeat, so that it looks like you have a very large background to the bottom of the page with lines on the left on them

Mirna

Like I Said, I Dont Know How To Use It, Even If I Do Use It, I Dont Know All Of The Symbols Are For. I DONT THINK JUST ONLY 'verticle' LINES WOULD WORK.

Then you need to learn the basics of PSP7...open it up click on 'help' and do some of the tutorials etc in there :D

You should learn the basics of PSP before you try to make a whole layout/background image on it :) If you hover the buttons, it will tell you what they are (like crop, draw, flood fill, text, etc). I guess those are the 'symbols' you mean. Otherwise, drawing a vertical line would be easy for you, lol. Just open a new image and play around with effects, you'll always find something new.

uh..is a *template* layout?
what?!

how bout you open up paint shop pro. then go to file > new. then type in the height and width of the image.. it can be 800x600, or whatever you want it to be.

first add some background color using the tool that looks like a paint bucket. select whatever color you want. it'll only fill the background with the color that's in the top box. the bottom box is the color used if you erase something [it's like the "background color"].

then find some pictures of your favorite band, celebrity, or whatever you want to be on your site. save them and open them up in paint shop pro. select one that you would like to have on the background, right click on it, and select "copy" [or do ctrl+c].

then, click on the background image that you're making and type ctrl+e. move the picture to wherever you want it. you can add other pictures you find the same way. to blend them together with different effects, use the tool that is in the VERY MIDDLE of the effects toolbar [8 from the top, 8 from the bottom]. you can select either the "dudge brush, burn brush, smudge brush, push brush, soften brush, sharpen brush, or emboss brush" with that one tool. use it to blend the pictures you add to the background.

just mess around with some stuff, that's what i did. i learned the features on my own.. it was fun :P

well i think she misunderstood your reply, because "what's" was missing :\

a template is a premade layout that has a very basic setup.
