I am using the GIMP program, and everytime I save a photo it always gets all distorted. Is there anywayto keep this from happening?

Yes, it does. .jpgs condense pictures immensely so that they are really small files and don't take up a ton of space. This usually makes pictures really fuzzy if they aren't optimized correctly, which is why they're usually best with actual photographs [I use .jpg when saving the pics from my digital camera]. .gifs save as smaller files also, but don't ruin your picture. As a note, it's best to save pictures with text on them as .gif or .png because .jpg makes the text really fuzzy.

When I tried to save it as a gif it said that it was an "unknown file type". I even tried to put it in quotes and still nothing. Any solutions?
