View Full Version : 76th Academy Awards Cherchezlafemme 03-01-2004, 01:45 AM What were your favortie parts? I loved the beginning :lolol: Billy Crystal is great!! :D Owlie42 03-01-2004, 02:11 AM Yessies, I loved the beginning. I'm still watching, praying for Depp and LOTR. Not that Depp will get it, but...I can hope, can't I?! SSPrincess 03-01-2004, 04:10 AM I thought somebody would start a thread, but I didn't think I'd be now. Anywho, I liked the '5 seconds delay' and the LOTR poem thingy at the beginning....heh...though the wheel chair was definately the best! :lolol: But wow!!!! 0.0;;;; I want to live in New Zealand now! Then I came be famous! So many oscars!!! *runs downstairs to watch it some more* Owlie42 03-01-2004, 04:25 AM Somehow, I doubt LOTR will get Bast Picture. They've given it all the minor ones. The Academy has neither sense of humor nor imagination. They don't like fantasy... Neptune 03-01-2004, 04:39 AM WHAT! Was that tonight?! Dang, if I missed it... ARG. I never miss it. Well, give me the hightlights? What a bummer. Isn't it normally in March? Ack, I can still see the last bit but whatever. Owlie42 03-01-2004, 04:50 AM It's a month early this year *is STILL praying for Depp and LOTR* LesPaul59 03-01-2004, 04:50 AM Yeah that is what I heard...March Proud and Still Proud *has only watched like one award show in his life* SSPrincess 03-01-2004, 05:09 AM Darn...Depp didn't swing off with Best Actor. But wow!!! LOTR's!!!! They won everything they were in!!!! 0.0;;;; Okay, know that that's over...time for bed... *scurries off* Neptune 03-01-2004, 05:27 AM Saw the last bit. Turns out my family forgot to tell me it was on . Yay for LOTR though! They deserve it. Valkyrie 03-01-2004, 05:59 AM Yay! LOTR finally won Best Picture! :D Marianne 03-01-2004, 08:52 AM I'm surprised Depp didn't get the best actor award. He sure gets the title in my book! adrielle 03-01-2004, 11:42 AM Ooh! RotK's won everything they were nominated in! :D Gah, I didn't watch it....:( Ravie 03-01-2004, 02:32 PM Because we no longer have cable or any of our television sets hooked up, I didn't get to watch. *throws hissy-tissy fit* Neighbor lady informed the neighborhood about who won everything though. She was very excited  Arc Angel 03-01-2004, 06:34 PM Buahahaha! A clean sweep of 11 awards for Return of the King! :D I think that ties it with one other movie (I forget the name) for most awards or something of that nature. Unfortunately I missed most of it; I was at church. So my favourite part would have to be the tail end that I watched. :P Neptune 03-01-2004, 07:35 PM Titanic? I dunno, I just remember it won a lot. SSPrincess 03-01-2004, 08:50 PM Buahahaha! A clean sweep of 11 awards for Return of the King! :D I think that ties it with one other movie (I forget the name) for most awards or something of that nature. Unfortunately I missed most of it; I was at church. So my favourite part would have to be the tail end that I watched. :PThe other movie was Ben Hur, but out of the two, I'd say LOTR's is definately the better of the two, even considering the differences in when they were made. Cherchezlafemme 03-02-2004, 02:27 AM It's now official there is no longer anyone in New Zealand to thank  People are just moving to New Zealand to be thanked :lolol: Tsuki Usagi 03-02-2004, 03:30 AM I didn't see it either, but I hadn't seen any of the movies anyway. Owlie42 03-02-2004, 04:28 AM Ooh! RotK's won everything they were nominated in! :D Gah, I didn't watch it....:( Actually, it missed for sound mixing, but who cares! It's finally won best picture! and, I can take my avy down now... But Depp should have gotten best actor! *mutters at Academy* (But at least he didn't storm out of the place this time...) Rosey 03-02-2004, 05:45 AM I agree, Johnny Depp should have won, he was great in potc LOTR tied with Ben Hur AND Titanic :P You notice everyone was wearing basically the same stuff, how dull! Marianne 03-02-2004, 07:36 AM (But at least he didn't storm out of the place this time...)He did what? when? Owlie42 03-03-2004, 12:56 AM He was nominated for something a while back, and when he didn't get it, he stormed out... Rosey 03-03-2004, 01:10 AM he's changed a lot, i'm sure a lot of people are thankful! he looked pretty good last night...reminded me of edward scissorhands tho... Owlie42 03-03-2004, 03:03 AM Hearing him speak, it makes me think that not all of the "Pirates" role was acting... Soul Dancer 03-03-2004, 03:21 AM Orginially posted by Owlie42 Actually, it missed for sound mixing, but who cares! It's finally won best picture! and, I can take my avy down now... Really? I'm pretty fairly certain it was nominated in 11 categories, and it won 11 oscars, so... Master&Commander won for sound-something, that's probably what you're thinking about. But whateva! It's over, and yes, Titanic, Ben-hur, and now RoTK are the three movies tied in the record for most academy awards ever won. Billy Crystal was AWESOME. Everything, from the singing in the beginning, to his jokes with Robin Williams, to his little comments (like after everyone in New Zealand was thanked, and then Charlize Theron thanked South Africa, and he said, "While we're at it I'd just like to thank the people of Long Island") kept me laughing the whole night. Will Farrell and Jack Black were pretty amusing too ("You're borrrinnngg!"). That's pretty much what kept me watching; most of the awards were fairly predictable. Johnny Depp did do a swell job in PotC, but it was one of those comical, unforgettable roles, whereas the Academy likes to pick the dramatic heart-wrencing stuff like Sean Penn, which is all good, 'cuz Penn's a good actor too. I'm just glad they nominated Johnny; I thought they'd ignore PotC completely, but it got nominated at least twice, so that was cool. And he has changed from his wild days, like the incident with River Phoenix. :( I think his wife has shaped him up, LOL. Is everyone excited about his new movie, "The Secret Window"? Rosey 03-03-2004, 05:52 AM he actually said becoming a father calmed him salomeyasobko 03-03-2004, 06:12 AM don't get me wrong, i LOVEEEEEEE rotk [i saw it about 6 times, haha :hehe:], but i just don't think it deserved allll thoseee awards! same with titanic. both excellent movies [though rotk is better :buckt:] but i mean.. thee academy went a bit crazy with those two. but i'm still happy, i got to look at billy boyd a lot throughout the award show [too bad he was sitting way on the end though! i didn't get to see him as much as i'd hoped :(]. ps, i reallllllly wanted johnny depp to win. he was so good in POTC!!!! i was very sad when he didn't get it  Marianne 03-03-2004, 07:30 AM If they have an award for 'cutest' actor he would always win :stickout: But seriously, he showed some pretty decent acting talents in POTC. We had soooo much fun watching it! Ravie 03-03-2004, 01:13 PM I don't think Johnny Deep was cute in POTC at all. *ducks flying objects* I mean looks by the way not actions. Then again I have only seen previews, but from what I have seen. MaGiCSuN 03-03-2004, 02:08 PM *cough*negative is back*cough* I agree with salomeyasobko, LOTR had won a bit too many awards though... not that i watch the show anywayz (too american all the stuff lol) but still... but that could be because i don't like those kind of movies at all. My dad watched the first movie of the LOTR movies two days ago and i saw little bits but they really didn't bother me at all... I only saw some flashes in "rtl boulevard" (like the news, but then about gossip kinda things) about the award shows. Marianne 03-03-2004, 03:38 PM I don't think Johnny Deep was cute in POTC at all. *ducks flying objects* I mean looks by the way not actions. Then again I have only seen previews, but from what I have seen.Hmmm, he was not as cute perhaps as in other films or series, but I think he was still attractive, in an evil sort of way. *hides this thread from my hubby* Rosey 03-03-2004, 08:35 PM johnny depp made the movie..i mean i know it has orlando bloom it in and all but he wasn't as good in that as he was in lotr. johnny depp was so hilarious to watch in potc, it's what hooked me from the start. Marianne 03-03-2004, 09:08 PM johnny depp made the movie..i mean i know it has orlando bloom it in and all but he wasn't as good in that as he was in lotr. johnny depp was so hilarious to watch in potc, it's what hooked me from the start. ditto that :D SSPrincess 03-04-2004, 01:30 AM If they have an award for 'cutest' actor he would always win :stickout:That's only if they don't nominate Josh Hartnett :stickout: Well, I would of liked it if Seabiscuit would of won something...LOTR's RotK should of spread the wealth...;) sebluver 03-04-2004, 09:04 PM I don't think Johnny Deep was cute in POTC at all. *ducks flying objects* I mean looks by the way not actions. Then again I have only seen previews, but from what I have seen. I don't think he was cute in POTC at all either. But he wasn't really supposed to be cute in that movie, so I don't really mind that. But he looks quite lovely indeed in alot of the other movies he's been in. Except not Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. He was bald! I just couldn't get over that fact, lol. Owlie42 03-04-2004, 11:38 PM johnny depp made the movie..i mean i know it has orlando bloom it in and all but he wasn't as good in that as he was in lotr. johnny depp was so hilarious to watch in potc, it's what hooked me from the start. I second *looks at Marianne's post*-uh, third that. salomeyasobko 03-05-2004, 12:20 AM i think johnny depp was especially attractive at the oscars.. yum :D his hair was pretty :hehe: Owlie42 03-05-2004, 01:11 AM Oh yes, first thing I looked at, his hair. :hehe: jessi15 03-05-2004, 01:58 AM I think Titanic had won 14 awards (not sure though) I wish Johnny Depp would have gotten best actor. That was one of my fav movies. He was great. edit: Oops, I only read the first page  Owlie42 03-05-2004, 02:00 AM It said it tied with Titanic, so I think it got 11 jessi15 03-05-2004, 02:07 AM Yup, I just noticed that. I'm glad Nemo won. I don't know why the short film from Ice Age was in there for short films. Wasn't that quite a while ago??? (Sorry I don't know much about movie) Marianne 03-05-2004, 07:17 AM Yup, I just noticed that. I'm glad Nemo won. I don't know why the short film from Ice Age was in there for short films. Wasn't that quite a while ago??? (Sorry I don't know much about movie) Ice age? Yeah, that was what- some 10.000 years ago... right? Owlie42 03-05-2004, 08:01 PM :hehe: maybe they only released it with the DVD/VHS or whatever, I don't know. But it was funny. |
