Today is a good day :D
Fourteen years ago, I had this friend back in England, we were flatmates at the time, and she was a real real good friend. I'll give you an example:
I was 20 at the time, and I worked at Heathrow airport as a security agent. Because of my job, I had a pass that allowed me to go pretty much anywhere on the airport, but because of security issues, I had to provide my employer with a copy of my criminal record (if you had anything on your criminal record, you couldn't work for them). So I went to the police station to fill out a form that would ensure my employer got a copy of my criminal record. After filling out the form and paying for it, the police always paid you a visit, and never announced when, but usually within 4 weeks or so.
I forgot all about it, and about 3 weeks after filling out that form, I managed to get 4 days off in a row, so I booked a ticket to Holland to go see my family. Because it was a spurr of the moment sort of decision, I left a note for my flatmate, telling her I had gone to Holland unexpectedly, and would be back on tuesday.
She got home, read my note, and thought nothing of it, until the police knocked on the door. There were three police officers, asking for me. I had failed to tell her they were supposed to check on me sometime.
So she figured I must be in trouble, and told them she didn't know where I was, or when I'd be back. So she lied twice to the police to cover for me.
She didn't need to do that, but how was she to know.
Anyway, later that year I left England, she stayed for another year but moved about all the time, I lived in Holland but was also moving about all the time. Internet and email didn't exist yet, so we lost track of one another.
But you don't just lose track of a friend that lies to the police for you, right?
So I was looking for her for ages, not even knowing which country to look in, and today I found her parents, and called them, and they gave me her number, and I called her and it was so cool to talk again, I never thought I would find her. I'm so happy :-D
