I wanted Dean..:( I'm still in shock over the fact that I can't force my parents to vote for him, boo.

<random>If he had won, then I'm sure SOMEBODY would have come up with the concept of "Deanie Babies" and that would've been cool, hehe. I need you to win, Dean. I'd make millions with that idea! (just kidding.)
</random>

I have no idea who I want to win now that Dean's dropped out, though. Edwards? Is he even still in? I'm so confused by the democratic party so much lately, I don't know who's in, who's out, who's in Hawaii..

Dude128

well there will be only one Democratic candidate in the actual election- there are only multiple until one wins the primaries.

I plan to vote (yay for being 18! :P) for the Democratic candidate, whoever that may be. the worst Democrat has to be better than Bush. and the Democratic candidate will be the only one with any chance against Bush- and I'm with the people that wish Nader wasn't running- he's just going to take votes away from the Democrat, and therefore make it more likely that Bush will win (in the last election he got more votes than the difference between Gore and Bush).

Since Bush thinks he runs the world i think everyone should be able to vote in the elections...i know i'd love to be able to vote this year cos even though its not my country i want that man out of there because i fear for the world with him in charge!

And i'll just copy and past this from my current blog entry....

Did you all know Osama Bin Laden was caught ages ago? Nope didn't think so, you know why you don't know yet? Bush is keeping it to himself until closer to the election in the hopes that youre all so stupid you'll vote him back in for 'getting Osama' Your'e smarter than that, don't fall for it America!

I think it's entirely possible to make fun of one person without making fun of the entire group that the person is a part of. I think Bush is especially stupid, but I'm not saying that all Republicans are (I personally disagree with most of their views, but that doesn't mean I think they're all stupid, but I do think Bush is).

Owlie42
03-05-2004, 07:56 PM
Well-put, dude!

Geez, just because I say Bush is stupid doesn't mean I'm saying REPUBLICANS are stupid. I wouldn't say he was so bad if nothing had happened between 2000 and now. It's just that he has no idea how to handle the times, and no clue in dealing with foreign policy. I'll agree it's not all his fault, he seems kind of detached. But if we could kindly get away from the "You're either with us or against us" foreign policy, we'd all be happy as...cuttlefish.

I understand that people have differing opinions, and I can understand that some people think Bush is stupid. I don't agree, but I'll respect the opinion. However, I think that one should make more constructive criticism concerning the issue. You can state your beliefs that Bush isn't intelligent without degrading him (I'm referring to the ape-Bush comparison.) For example, Owlies' recent statement about Bush and foreign policy is constructive.

Although people may not mean to be insulting republicans by insulting Bush, it can come across that way, especially when he is regarded on the same plane as an ape. After all, he is the republican candidate. So by referring to him in such a manner is like calling the ideals of republicans similar to that of an ape.

Anywho... back to algebra :P

apes are different that monkeys :D

well, i apologize greatly, i will try to respect the feelings of bush-lovers more. i am sorry if any feelings were hurt. :)

anyway, how does everyone know that they caught osama? where'd you hear about that? i think its all a big myth, osama bin laden never really existed. he was created to blame terrorism on someone! so, yeah.. to the people who think "osama"s being caught will come out later in the election process, what is the basis of your assumption? because it all seems rather far-fetched to me

Dude128
03-06-2004, 02:31 AM
of course I'm still skeptical, but it is possible that he has been caught. I believe starlet first mentioned it, and it is possible that she heard it from a reputable source- American media tends to be rather biased, and perhaps it is getting around the media in other countries (such as England).

"he was created to blame terrorism on someone"- I think it was more that terrorism (or rather, the fear of) was created to blame everything on. just think about how many times the reason that Bush states for the war in Iraq has been changed...

and I didn't read the story, but in the (NY) Daily News, I saw an article about commercials that Bush has for his campaign that use scenes from 9/11 in them- if you ask me, that's sick. I figured he probably would use 9/11 and his "heroism" in order to help him get re-elected, and there he goes and uses it in his ads...

I am Liberal, with basically one Republican view. Turns out I'm more an of an anarchest than anything, but...

If you're unsure of your party, goto www.politicalcompass.org and in the top corner they have a link along the lines of TAKE THE QUIZ. I did notice, it places other people so you can compare. Bush is like y=9, i.e. a total fascist XD

I'm opinionated greatly, so I'll just say one thing: MAny presidents have been discriminatory, but Bush is the first to try to enact it into law.

Bush is more like x=9, y=5 or so, very right and closer to Authoritarian/Fascist.

Did anyone see Condeleeza Rice today? She was very good I might say, my mom let me skip first period to see her. I only saw bits and pieces of it on some news network a couple hours ago, but I thought she was rather rude from some things that I saw :P one guy asked her some question, and she started to say something off topic, so he asked her if she could just answer the question, and she wouldn't- she kept arguing with him, and then she just did her own thing.

and as some people they had on pointed out, that 9/11 commission won't get anything done- because people like Rice, for instance, didn't really say anything. if the point is to correct things, they first need to know what's wrong, and all she was doing was saying they did everything right.

I only heard part of that

I am sort of an anarchist as well. Or at least I used to be. I mean, anarchism is a great idea, but we can't exactly trust everyone to take accountability for themselves... That's why it kind of bites. I disagree with capitalism to the fullest extent. Laws may be necessary---but not pointless, stupid, discriminating and disenfranchising ones. I think perhaps socialism would work... Or any system other than the current.

I thought capitalism was competing businesses to get the best deal, and socialism was one thing is all, such as universal health care, the gov't is the only person. Nothing to do with laws. Lemme check on this:

Yes I was right here we are, from www.dictionary.com

Capitalism - An economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately or corporately owned and development is proportionate to the accumulation and reinvestment of profits gained in a free market.

Socialism - Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
2. The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not yet been successfully achieved.

Are you sure you weren't thinking of something else??

salomeyasobko

capitalism is like.. a free enterprise nation. where anyone can own and run a business, and the economy is muchly based on credit.

it all started out when the alexander hamilton decided to pay the US's war debts from the revolutionary war [he was secretary of treasury]. thomas jefferson believed that the US had no money for that so he opposed it, but that was before he became president so he couldn't do anything about it ;) so then hamilton established the federal bank, in which he issued bonds out to different countries [like you pay 20 bucks for a 100 dollar bond and if you still have it after X number of years, you turn it in and get the 100 dollars].

so he used the profit from those bonds to pay back countries the US owed money to. then the nation got credit- countries they borrowed money from them felt they could trust them so they had better trade. when the US was a bit bigger and had a lot more money [the economy got really good really fast] it paid the amount written on those bonds and still had lots of money left over [from trade and etc].

so capitalism is based on the concept of credit- you borrow money and if you don't pay it back you have bad collateral and no one will let you borrow again. but if you pay someone back they can charge interest and then they'll get a profit and then you can lend money and charge interest and everyone makes money through the power to borrow.

phew there's your little history lesson from the day!

by the way, we just learned that last week, that's why i was so eager to let it out :D

heh, I've done the Political Compass thing before, and I just did it again- apparently I'm closest to Libertarian/Anarchism also. I got a -1.38 on the economic scale (left, but more moderate than anything), and a -6.56 on the social scale.

Bush is more like x=9, y=5 or so, very right and closer to Authoritarian/Fascist.

since I don't like Bush, I was glad to see I was in the opposite quadrant :P

Economic Left/Right: -3.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.64

yay! welcome to the Quadrant III! You're here with me!

Ah, yes...Thomas Hobbes and John Locke, brings back history memories...
The natural state of man is anarchy, yet people are evil, so they make a contract with the government in order to protect their natural rights...I have to go find the words...

LesPaul59
04-11-2004, 06:36 PM
Yeah the correct term for giving up rights to the gov't for protection is called a Social Contract.

For instance, by living in America, you give up the right to punish people yourself, a right you'd have "in nature". In return, you get things from the country such as a plot of land to live on.

haha I retook the compass thing, andnow I'm a -4.62, -6.21. Now I'm even deeper into Quadrant III!

XD

I hate it when people say that Bush is good because he does good stuff..in their opinion. I'm pro-choice, I wish Bush wouldn't butt into women's lives and say what to do with their undeveloped fetus. So him doing all those 'wonderful' things for the pro-life movement isn't my cup of tea.

Offtopic, my brother got me the best book ever. It's a book of Republican quotes on all sorts of subjects, most of them insanely stupid. They even have the, "So, you have blacks here too?" one, heh.

You could probably tell that I'd vote Democrat or green/independent. But Nader's loopy (and he'd never win), Kerry...is Kerry, and I hate Bush (especially his foreign policy-i.e., "if it's not American in outlook, shoot it!" and his apparent thoughts on the environment: "Y' know, this clean air...We don't really need it, do we? I mean, we can all sacrifice some lung tissue for the sake of the war on terror. Same goes for that clear liquidy stuff...Water! We don't need any of that either! And trees, we really don't need those. They're really just giant bits of woody broccoli, and daddy hates broccoli. And, you can make paper out of it that you don't have to recycle!" Him and his stupid business connections.) But all in all, I'd vote for Kerry. *wishes her birthday had been a year earlier*

hahahahaha! wow! that's kind of harsh

ooh by the by, i read an article about her in the new yorker and it turns out her family didn't invent the ketchup, her previous husbands family did... heinz isn't her maiden name, it's the last name of her dead husband.. i guess she kept it. and yeah he was a bazillionaire so she inherited his money when he died and that's how she's rich.

i kind of find it odd that she still kept his last name [even though she added "kerry" on]. but then again it's a very "rich" last name, that's probably why she kept it.. like tina turner, she kept ike's last name
