I have a lot of tiny fears or whatever, but no phobias. I don't freak out terribly like one would with a phobia.

I have a phobia of being in crowds. I'm not a people person. Kids are fine though.

I'm deathly afraid of needles.

I also learned of a new anxiety that I have. :P I used to think I was afraid of public speaking, but once I'm talking I'm fine... so it's the anticipation of the speaking that I'm afraid of. It's odd but it makes sense, I swear. :P

ME TOO!!!! i hate needles.. i had pneumonia a few years ago and they had to draw blood for whatever reason and they had to get 5 nurses to hold me down  i get nervous even when i raise my hand to talk in class. i'm weird like that. also, i am horrible at public speaking [so my mom is making me join the debate team next year, which seems fun i guess :D]. and i hate hate hate spiders. they frighten me so. :(

i also think i may be on the verge of an OCD [obsessive compulsive disorder].

Neadles don't bother me. I don't like getting stuck but I had to have blood drawn yesterday and it didn't bother me watching the blood flow into the tube.

I think I pretty much have phobias out the wazoo. let's see, of the ones I can think of/recognize, there's public speaking, failure, some social situations, change...

some of them may or may not be considered "phobias", but more like simple fears (if that makes sense), but whatever :P

since someone else mentioned it (even though I don't think it's all that related), I think I may have OCD (I've read that it's related to depression- as in it may have the same cause, something to do with seretonin levels in the brain- which I know I have)

yeah, I have issues :P

Well there's being nervous and it, and then there's having panic attacks. I can't breathe when I start thinking about talking in front of a group. Now that's a phobia. :P

That's interesting. I may not have a text-book definition of OCD, but I have my obsessive tendencies.

It has gotten better, though. Like, I used to have this fear of odd numbers - when I was counting something, it always had to be even, there could never be something that didn't fit in. Sometimes I still get like that, but I have more or less gotten over it.

I may not have a text-book definition of OCD, but I have my obsessive tendencies.

here, how's this? :P

this came from a booklet that came with a prescription antidepressent (about the various conditions related to depression):

"What is panic disorder?
Panic disorder is an anxiety disorder. With panic disorder, you may get very strong feelings of panic out of the blue. These feelings may be so strong that you feel like you're having a heart attack. People with panic disorder constantly worry about having another attack. They may try to avoid situations that might trigger a panic attack. They may even become afraid to go outside for fear of having another attack.
...
What are the symptons of panic disorder?
...
-Pounding heart or fast heart rate
-Sweating
-Trembling or shaking
-Feeling of choking
-Chest pain or discomfort
-Nausea or stomach ache
-Feeling dizzy, light-headed, or faint
-Feeling detached from yourself or feeling that the situation is unreal
-Fear of losing control or "going crazy"
-Fear of dying
-Numbness or tingling feelings
-Chills or hot flashes
...
What is obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)?
People with OCD can feel trapped in a pattern of thoughts, ideas, urges, and actions that happen over and over agin. These are called obsessions. People often try to fight their obsessions by repeating their actions again and again. These actions are called compulsions. With OCD, these obsessions and compulsions can become stressful and uncontrollable."

and from the list of symptoms of OCD, I have 3 of the 5 "common obsessions":
-Fear of making mistakes
-Fear of doing something embarrassing in public
-Need for order or to have things "just right"

and I have a couple of the "common compulsions":
-Cleaning/washing
-Checking
-Counting/repeating

and from "What causes depression, panic disorder, OCD, and PTSD [Posttraumatic Stress Disorder]?"
"The actual cause of depression, panic disorder, and OCD is not clear. ...Studies have shown that some symptoms of all these disorders may be related to an imbalance of naturally occurring chemicals in the brain. These chemicals play a role in sending messages between nerve cells."

hahahaha! sometimes my eye twitches :hehe:

by the way, i've never heard of OCDs having to do with depression. my sisters friend has an OCD [or at least i think she does.. she's freakishly neat] but she appears to be cheerful! hmn.. :)

arg 5 minute limit, i wanted to say that i sometimes have semi-panic attacks :( lemme explain, i have an extreme fear of horror movies.. like, if i see a commercial for one, i won't be able to sleep without the light on for a while. anyway, sometimes when i'm home alone in the evening, i'll get really paranoid and start looking over my shoulder a lot.. like i'm doing now [arr, now i've got myself started again]. but anyway, i get really really scared that some demented madman is gonna pop out at me and brutalize me with a screw driver. i wish i didn't, it's not fun.

No phobias for me (at least none that I have encountered as of yet). In example, I detest spiders, but I wouldn't go far as to say I have arachnophobia. I also hate public speaking, or drawing the attention of a large crowd in any way (I'm not much of a people person). :P Other than those, I can't really think of any.

My left eye twitches, sometimes, but only when I'm really tired.

I don't think I have any phobias, though.

I believe it just has a similar/the same cause, but just because someone has one, it doesn't necessarily mean they have all the related disorders. for example, I have depression and possibly OCD, but not panic disorder or PTSD. and also, with depression there are ups and downs. sometimes I can be cheerful and everything, but overall, I would say that my mood is lower that usual. whether I feel relatively happy or not at a particular moment, the depression is still there.

and being neat doesn't necessarily mean that she has OCD- I can't really explain it, but there are certain things that if I don't do them I get like anxious or something. I always have been a generally neat person, but there are things that I find myself doing that basically bug me if I don't do them a certain way.

Uhmmm... Is there are word for "hair phobia"? Like arachnophobia. Yes, I know, I'm weird. Hair anywhere on the body besides the head (top of head, eyebrows, moustache, beard) bothers me. I don't know why, it just does.
