Im really excited. I can already play lots of notes, and can all ready play a simple scale.

I cannot wait until i start taking lessons!!

Well, thats all i wanted to say.

Thanks for reading this!!

i play the oboe!! it's weird how i've been playing it for a few years now but it's still fun for me! you know, the best kind of reeds to get are the ones with the black thread. that means they're french, and they are always excellent reeds. they are a bit on the expensive side though, about 15 dollars each. but i think they're worth it :D

I just snap guitar strings, like the other day lol. Occasionally a violin string too. My E doesn't have a ball, so the question isn't if, but rather when.

Violin for 7 years, Guitar for 4.

Congrats on the Oboe Chris :P

The Oboe is my favourite instrument, along with the piano :)
I don't play any instruments though. With my musical talent, or rather, the lack of it, my neighbours are grateful for that.

You play oboe?! (or learning to play...) I do too! YEAH! You're my hero! :D I've been playing for almost 5 years (points to avatar). It's a lot of work (I swear, I'm a slave to mine) and v. difficult at first. My dog hid under the bed the first time I played at home. '^^ Good luck! Hope you get a new reed soon!

Woohoo! Getting a new instrument is always exciting. :)

I got a black saxophone for my birthday last year, but haven't even played it until band this year. I also have a violin, acoustic and electric guitar, a keyboard, and the small stuff like harmonica, fife, and ocarina. Hehe, I like collecting instruments, even if I don't know how to play them.

The next instuments I want to get and learn to play is the oboe and basoon though. They look so fun. ^_^

I wanna cello too, but fat chance of me ever getting one until after I leave college. My parents have already said they'll get me a viola before I go to college. I love the one I have though. I've even given it a title: Viola da Morte (guess what it means) :hehe:

i want an electric guitar but if i get one, i'd have to get an amp, and a guitar + amp is pretty expensive :( i gotta convince my parents to get me that for my birthday :D [i guess i won't be getting a flash maker thing this year then *sigh*]

Cherchezlafemme
02-19-2004, 10:48 PM
lol Yeah it does get pretty expensive and also if you want goodies and stuff like a wah wah pedal :D But im not even going there (long story)

02-19-2004, 10:50 PM
hahah what's a wah wah pedal? er.. what does it sound like?

Cherchezlafemme
02-19-2004, 10:56 PM
it sounds like wah wah? while you play the guitar and have the wah wah pedal with it, the sounds coming out have a "wah wah" character to them. Like have you ever heard Burning of the Midnight Lamp by jimi hendrix or Vodoo Child i think using a vox wah wah (vox is the first company that accidentally created the wah wah pedal)

http://www.emplive.com/audio/create/pedals/wah_burning_andrew_wah_56.asx

notice how different the guitar sounds with it?

salomeyasobko
02-19-2004, 10:58 PM
hahaha accidentally. that's cool i want one! if i get an electric guitar and amp, i'm definately gonna go for all those distortion things :D

has anyone heard of/ played the moog? those things are cool :)

haha tuning is annoying me right now. With all the different music I like, one of my guitars is in standard, one is dropped a whole step, one is dropped two whole steps! And I have to tune them up and down and up and down. but practice is practice. I had to make index cards to make sure. THIS GUITAR IS IN: E-A-D-G-B-e (STANDARD). XD.

Owlie42
02-20-2004, 04:59 AM
I use a guitar tuner to tune my viola, which is fine, except for the fact that I need a C and it doesn't have that. But I hate tuning in winter, because the pegs slip and then the fine-tuners are all stiff...

sheesh! even the small ones have a lot! I have a small one, I think it's called a cymbal?
I got it when I was little.
It's com-ple-te-ly out of tune these days (and I have noooooo idea how to tune it), and I'm cruel enough to hand it over to little kids coming to visit. They never complain, and just play with it.
Bet my neighbours are pleased with that :D

salomeyasobko
02-20-2004, 10:45 PM
awwww poor cherchez :(

i've never snapped a string. how does it happen? i'm very nice to my guitar :D

Cherchezlafemme
02-20-2004, 11:12 PM
Well sometimes you can tighten your strings too much or it just happens randomly. I'm nice to my electric guitar no bashing on it or anything but it will snap occasionally :crying: *bashes guitar* I usually curse at it and threaten it to a dump yard :D

Owlie42
02-20-2004, 11:53 PM
I recently had to get all my viola stings changed because they went "false"-ie, no amount of tuning could get them back in tune...stupid rental instruments...*apologizes to the viola da morte*

Cherchezlafemme
02-21-2004, 01:20 AM
lol I'm not putting the strings back in and tuning until tomorrow. I dont think i can do that with my hand yet, i can almost barely type lol

LesPaul59
02-21-2004, 01:39 AM
Yeah snapping is NOT fun. I was lucky last time, I was playing, and instead of snapping, my tune-Lok loosened somehow and it pretty much fell out. Well I don't wanna say fell out because it still snapped back and hit my hand, but it barely left a mark that time. I didn't even feel any pain. I was just "Darnit! Now I have three string packs that will be missing an E!!!"

I got my guitar and amp used, so it didn't cost so much. I want to get a wah wah petal though, those things look so fun. :D

Oh they're fun. As cherchez will say, Kung Fu Fighting through a wah sounds awesome. And E Major Scale XD

One of my good friends plays the harp. It looks really hard. I always admired pianists because they could play a different rhythm with each hand. Harps kinda the same way I guess. I have a little lap harp, but I don't think that counts... Oh and a tonet! It only plays like 5 notes but it's great.

kicker91

I just started piano this year. It seems really hard at first to play two different things with each hand, but it's really not once you get the hang of it. Then it becomes hard to do the same thing with each hand!

oooh the oboe I have a few friends that play it hehe.

I play the clarinet and bass clarinet. I like playing the clarinet though because it's so much more interesting, the parts that we get to play and stuff. On the bass clarinet all I play is bass lines and I'm forced to play it for band because there are no other bass clarinet players in band. *sigh*
