How did she make the part of the background where it is outlined with red and has a gradient in it? It interrupts the to different sides with the checkerboard and it has fiercelove written in it? I know she used photoshop.
The url I'm talking about is http://www.fiercelove.net/index.htm

If you meant the gradient letter well this is what you do (this is in psp, I don't know about photoshop)
1.Make your foreground color white and your background color black
2. Use the text tool to write your text in whatever size font etc
3. While the text Is still selceted go to selections>load & save selections>Save to alapha channel, and it save it text1
4. Then delete the selected text then click selections>load & save>Load from alpha channel
5. Know they should be selected text but no text there just the selection, know just run a gradient over it and Your finshed

how she created the layout i guess is by drawing the layout on paper, then scaning it, with the lines she then created the lines, and from then she then coloured it in using the layers.
geez theres so amazing illustrators out there :)

try to use the elliptical marquee tool and fill it with red.... then contract the selection by about 3-5 px and cut the rest inside the selection... keep it selected and then fill it with the gradient tool...
make the gradient via choosing the colours you want it to have as a fore- and background... click on the little arrow and choose the first gradient....
that is mainly what you have to do... hope I could help... just experiment with it..
