Some hosts do not allow direct linking, such as geocities. I use angelfire, but I think they may have prevented direct linking too now

Angelfire has not allowed direct linking for quite a long time now. If you are a paying Angelfire member, then you can direct link. There are plenty of other places of which you can use. Do a search on the forum here, and you should find some.

Well, make sure that you have it direct linked from a good host. I use walagata.com, I find it VERY good. If it's still not showing up, check your codes.
