I was wondering if there are any other programs like Adobe Photoshop 7.0 that I can download to make layouts with?

Yes, there are many other programs to choose from. Though I don't know a good cheap or free one. If you can spend like 100$ then go for a free trial with Paint Shop Pro and if you like it then buy it! It is really good and if you are a little behind as me (lol) then it is even better then Photoshop course it is much easier and almost as good!

I don't know why everyone goes around saying Paint Shop Pro is $100, I got mine on amazon.com for about $40 US..

Try http://www.freeserifsoftware.com , half of their programs are just like Photoshop, and they're all free. Photoplus I heard was the closest, but I've tried Drawplus 4 and it's just like Photoshop's drawing tool.

on jasc.com (makers of psp) it's 80something and on amazon it's 84 right now. The 40$ is the used versions.

sorry I was wrong...
It is jut the general price... and if you don't be careful you don't buy it somewhere where it is leagl and you don't get animation shop. These Serif-programms are really close to photoshop and PSP. It is like the tools are from PSP and the design of photoshop... quite a good fake. lol. I don't know, I just love PSP...

Oh, it's $84 for PSP 8. I have PSP 7 (not used) for $40 but that came with a rebate, so that's why it was $40. Cover price was $70, but there was that $30 rebate that came about 3 months later.

Serif is good, I'm saying that because I've used it, but had to delete it when I defragged my hardrive. What's there not to know about it? I'm not saying that you have to use it, I'm saying that it didn't install a virus on my computer and that it worked. And they're not fake, they're real programs. You make it sound like they ripped off photoshop.

And my paintshop pro came with everything (including the almost 200 page reference guide  ) so I'm not worrying about getting "cheap ripoffs" or the like from Amazon. It is a legal site, you know that, right?

is it also like PSP too?? or is it only similar to Photoshop...
I've use PSP a bit..not really, but at my friends, and it was cool. But if it was any harder, I'd have A LOT of trouble figuring effects, and stuff.

i downloaded the trial version of photoshop 7 and psp and photoshop are a lot alike. I wish someone would tell me what exactly you can do with photoshop that you can't do with psp. I saw the same tools and stuff. I probably overlooked something but I went back to psp ;)

LOL, I know what you mean. I got photoshop and sad there... it was like... huh??? Of course I managed a fiew things, but I wasn't nearly as good as in PSP, so I just swapped again... I'm that kind of person that just uses PSP8 when there is a tub I don't have for PSP7 or so, cause I prefer 7 to 8... a lot simpler... But I know there are these cool 3d swirls and balls you can do with PS like transperant glass... awww, I wanne know how to do them...

Another good programme is Paint Shop Pro, its not as famous as psp or adobe, but its good to use for 1st time graphics makers because its easy to blend and i found its the best programme for resizing images :)

The GIMP (http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/stable.html) is free but you can't save it as .gif

Serif PhotoPlus 5.5 is much better if you compare it with GIMP. I personally don't get GIMP at all... it is really compliacted. Serif PhotoPlus has got a nice interface (like PS and PSP :) ) and is easy and you can use almost all Photoshop and PaintShop Pro tuts if you know all the tools of serif!

I personally think there is a slight difference between PSP and PS. It may just be what I'm used to, but I personally think PS is better.

They are defenitly different, but I prefer PSP. I just use PS for tentacles and 3d thingys, course that's the only thing PSP somehow can't really do...
I think the interface of PSP is better as zhe one of PS... I prefer the PSP7 one. 8 is also getting a bit confusing... the cool thing about Serif PP is that it has both features of PSP and PS, but still it looks like some kind of copy to me...

psp 8 was confusing at first, they just moved some stuff around and it took a while to get used to it.
