I have PSP8, but for some reason my dodge/burn and lighten/darken tools won't work! :( *Note: This wasn't just for only one of my images either- it doesn't seem to work any any image! If you know why this is happening/how I can fix this, please reply- Thanks! :) (is it because I might have too many images stored? something's wrong with memory? should I try re-installing it?...)

PS Also, right now I'm trying Photoshop too, and the dodge/burn tools don't seem to work very often in there either (it only worked once so far)

I had this happen one time. The usual problem is that a) your opacity isn't high enough or b) you're trying to burn the wrong layer (ie you have a transparent layer from a font or line and haven't gone back to the background layer).

I tried using the tools at 100% opacity before (*note- didn't use really light color either), but it still didn't work no matter what settings I used :( Also, the layers I've tried working on didn't have any text/lines on it (usually just a blank layer that I hadn't drawn on before) Anyways, if you knows any other possibe reasons of why this happened please reply! :)

PS Thanks for replying anyways- maybe I should have mentioned this earlier

if it's a blank layer, i don't think it's going to do anything, you have to have a picture or color or something that you want to burn/dodge

yeah, that was what I was going to say... if you haven't anything on it, just a transperant layer or so, of course you can't burn...
Make sure your layer is the top layer and marked and should have at least been floodfilled with one colour...
