I am just starting out with trying to desing my website for my "small" buisness. I need help. I am going to use geocities hosting service that they provide for $8.95 a month. I would like to do my own html in notepad. With this being said, do I still need to purchase the ftp software? Or does that normallly come with the hosting service? remember I WANT TO DO THE HTML MY SELF. I have learned alot of great things from this website. I have bought every "creating websites for dummies" books out there, and this website has helped me more than the books :0). Thanks for the help with this question. It is very appreciated.

geocities has an "easy upload" you don't need to use an ftp program.

You dont need to pay for FTP programs, you can get free ones on the web (you can get some 'proffesional' ones, but the free ones are all you need really) Try a search (http://www.lissaexplains.com/forum//search.php?s=) of the forum for 'free ftp programs' and you'll get lots of threads discussing them and links to places you can download them.
