View Full Version : Five-finger Discount
Makar 01-11-2004, 06:04 AM Where do these people get off? It seems like everyone around me stoles everything they own.
"I stole them by putting them on under my other pair of pants in the changing room."
"Oh, you like this bracelet? I stole it from Claire's."
"Just take it out of the package and put it right in your Walkman."
And it's all little things too, you know? I mean, hello! Just a bunch of a lazy (oops, I thought this word would be censored) who don't feel like getting a job and actually buying these things with hard earned cash. It really ^^^^es me off! Not only that, but when things get stolen, it really hurts the business. People these days need to learn the value of a dollar!
Valkyrie 01-11-2004, 06:09 AM They'll get caught some day. They'll go to jail or get a fine. A fine that will be more costly than the item they were trying to steal. :s
sisqoluv 01-11-2004, 07:06 AM I can't stand people like that! A lot of those people start out young with little items (clothes, candy, etc), but then they end getting worse (cars, money, etc). What bugs me more is that people brag about it like it's nothing at all.
I hate it when people steal things, but i do feel bad for people that are buying a whole bunch of stuff and end up putting some one dollar thing into their pocket by accident, and then get introuble, or if your anything like me, i forgot to pay the bus fare and didnt realize until i was about to leave that the fare was in my hand....i felt so bad i went and payed before i got off, while if it was anybody else i know they wouldve shrugged it off
I don't understand how people can wear something or eat some candy or use something knowing they stole it, if it were me i'd feel so guilty....
starlet 01-11-2004, 05:05 PM I bet you anything that 99% of the stuff they say they stole they actually bought, they just think it makes them look cool...especailly if all their friends are claiming they do it too.
SSPrincess 01-11-2004, 05:07 PM Okay...I'm not trying to divert the conversation, but I never really got why it's called a 5 finger discount? Do you give yourself a discount for five fingers or is it because you can hide something in one hand or...? I mean, why can't they just call it stealing? It'd make things a lot easier for those of us who are a bit slow...

Well, you know how people have to dub everything. I think it means that you have five fingers, you automatically get a 'discount' on items for sale?
Sugar Rush 01-11-2004, 06:08 PM 5 finger discount as in it is "discounted" (free) because you use your 5 fingers (your hand) to take it ;).
Ya, I know what you are talking about. Some kids at my school brag about it, but I think it is totally insane. I couldn't live with myself if I did that!!!

Yesterday in my math class, there were two girls who stole bowling shoes and brought them to school in there bag and were braging about it to another girl. The other girl was like : I'm going bowling this weekend, I'll steal a pair and all three of us can wear them to school moday.
Okay, first of all who would want to steal some stinky ol' bowling shoes anyway. People like that just get on my nerves.
bellportal 01-11-2004, 07:02 PM This does really annoy me. Most people can be bothered to get off their ^^^^^ and do some work to get the money they need to live on, but these people can't be bothered becuase they are a lazy bunch of ^^^^^^^^!

I can understand stealing if you're poor and have no other way to support your family, but bowling shoes? That was just an act for attention! Was that really worth it? I can't stand people like that. A boy in my science class was showing off a nice pen he had. Someone asked how much he paid and he admited to stealing. He said it wasn't worth five dollars (or whatever he said). If not, then buy a pack of pens for the same price! Stupid.

*nods* someone on my bus was dared to steal a piece of gum from a store, and they bought it and pulled the pricetag off, and got 3 bucks out of it
Tsuki Usagi 01-13-2004, 02:06 AM I hate it when people who don't need to steal stuff, but there are cases wear someone can't afford to buy something so they steal.

Yeah, I don't think we have that problem too much in America...there are soup kitchens and such. Although I do see the reason for a homeless person stealing a jacket from Goodwill or something like that. I'm not so sure what poverty (sp?) is like in other countries though.
Ravie 01-13-2004, 02:48 PM Yeah, I don't think we have that problem too much in America...there are soup kitchens and such. Not everybody has access to a soup kitchen or a Goodwill etc. Becides homeless people are not the only ones who need to steal.
sebluver 01-13-2004, 08:30 PM I learned how to steal from CSI, heh. Apparently, you walk in to the dressing room with some clothing item, you change into the clothes, and you walk out of the store. Best done in a mall, you can make your getaway quickly.
Not that I've actually done that.
that story reminds me, my cousin was at a shoe store, and there was this guy she saw, he tried on a pair of shoes and walked out of the store in them leaving "his" shoes in the store, i think that's really pathetic, and im pretty sure he didn't need those shoes

My mom's manager of a shoe store, so it used to happen all the time when she first got there. Now they have big plastic tags that set of the alarm by the door if not removed, but people still rip the shows trying to get them off
Makar 01-14-2004, 05:20 AM I know this kid and his buddy who stole two-hundred dollars worth of fishing equipment at a Wal-mart and decided to go back for more. That's when they got caught.

Yeah, but I think if you try to rip them off ink or something squirts out everywhere? I read that on one of that tags once.

It depends on how you do it. You'll get ink everywhere, or complety tear the shoe, or both :D Either way, it's stupid to do.
lilmsunpopular 01-15-2004, 01:19 AM People are stupid,
This one old lady had a Budda sculpture in her yard, and two girls stole it, because they said "They wanted a little fun" They never actually brought it back, but I don't know who it is so I can't tell the old lady who. I personally find that stupid, and rude considering that lady is old. Everyone knows at school but won't tell the lady because these girls are 'popular' seniors.
jazzberry 01-15-2004, 01:54 AM yeah people talk about it all the time. A few of my friends got caught stealing from Wal-Mart and it was like 3 days before her 15th b-day :( I felt so bad for them, and now they're banned from that mall and we had a band trip and for lunch we went to that mall, it sucked :( I doubt they'll shoplift again.
Makar 01-16-2004, 05:14 AM Yeah, I think if they stuck with the old punishments, like cutting off one's hand, for example, I'm sure shoplifting would happen a lot less often. :hehe:
MaGiCSuN 01-16-2004, 01:37 PM I can understand stealing if you're poor and have no other way to support your family,
still then i don't understand... because stealing is still a crime for everyone not only the 'richer' people (if i can say it like that, i don't know any other word for it lol)
Often when we are in a big city there are people that beg you for money. I hate them, really i do. I'm like "get a job then" because if you clean up yourself a bit, and take the effort to be willing to do actually DO somethng yu can always get SOMEWHERE. I don't say you can be a docter then haha, but you an do something atleast.
but bowling shoes? ewww... that's gross ! can't believe people steal those things...
lilmsunpopular 01-16-2004, 02:14 PM actually I saw a hobo that had a sign that said "Will work for food" near Arbys, those are the type of hobo's that don't bother me. They know they have to work to gain. The ones who beg are the ones that bother me.

I saw one of those guys too, except he was on the side of a highway. :confusion

I didn't say it wasn't a crime, but there are some people who can not eat. Even in America, where we're the "fattest country" in the world, there are still people starving and there's not much they can do about it. There are many more people outside the country can not afford to eat. Not anyone can get a job... With the way our nation's been going under someone's presidency, the amount of jobs has decreased. I agree that some people are just lazy, however, there are people out there who have no where else to go. I doubt every person without a home, job, food, or money can access help to clean themselves up and get a job. Truth is, most jobs won't accept just anybody.

Actually not everyone can clean themselves off and go get a job. It's highly unlikely that anyone could do that unless they happen to be just what the business hiring is looking for. You can't just walk of the street, apply for a job, and poof you are working. Most places will not hire anyone unless they actually live somewhere, like in a house or apartment. They also require proof if ID which means the person would have to have an id card or drivers license and usually a social security card, which most people who become homeless do not have. There are places that pay by the day. You show up about four in the morning and they pay you by the hour, but then you would have to find a ride to them, which most people can't do. They are not all over the place though. There are many reasons why and how people become homeless. Maybe they got laid off and can't get another job. Maybe a woman and her children are there because her husband took of and left her with nothing and she doesn't have job experience. Sure there are people who are just lazy but most people on the streets are there because they cannot get off.
I use to steal money from people who came over to see my grandmother and take stuff from the store when I was there. Why? Because I was hungry. Not because I wanted to be cool.
Makar 01-17-2004, 05:21 AM There are always the sort who like to live on the road and just travel around. Of course, these are usually the kind of people who don't steal and beg for money, but they're sill homeless of course; maybe own a bike and a backpack filled with their most precious belongings. Poor and homeless but proud. I admire those people.
This one time during lunch at my elementary school the McDonalds that is really close had like 5 hobos there eating lunch-there was a special that day, and they had a shopping cart outside, some of my friends got so hyper that it took a lot of strength from them not to get inside the shopping cart and role down a hill
But a while before we all went to see a play, and then go ice skating downtown...and well my friend's bag was stolen by a hobo, and the guy ran down these stairs to an underground parking..., to make it worse my friend's bag had his shoes in it and all these CDs and an old cd player, but the one thing that was big was that he couldnt go on the subway or public transport with his skates or barefoot, so he had to call his dad go to his work in a taxi and wait there till bout 6 until he could get a ride home from his dad's work.
poor him :( but the guys in my class were so inconsiderate at the time and were like its all his fault we have to leave early-but it wasnt
MaGiCSuN 01-21-2004, 04:37 PM wow some people take my story very serious
i'm sorry but i was starting with still then I don't understand...
i just took the message in my message because it was going about the thing i wanted to post about... not against you but about the post...
also i said they could get somewhere, i didn't said a job particulary, because it can be schooling too.
oh yeah, and who send me that lovely red dot in this thread, thanks for it :P :lolol:
pcsagewiz 01-21-2004, 05:02 PM people that steal things are stupid what do you get out of it? apart from guilt
Football Bandit 01-23-2004, 01:57 AM Yeah, well not everyone can afford things, I left a rich school to go to an inner city school for football, and a lot of my friends steal lunch. It's not that they want to, but a lot of them cannot afford the food, yes I know, its extremely cheap, but some of my friends are poor. I know it is incorrect for them to steal, and I know it might put them into a situation where they believe stealing will do everything for them, and that they might get severly screwed, but I am not going to rat them out, because they are my friends.
Rosekeet 01-23-2004, 02:23 AM The problem is when people steal things they don't NEED. These people don't really need the jewlery or trendy clothes they steal.
Tsuki Usagi 01-23-2004, 10:30 AM I haven't stolen anything, but one time I did walk out of the story without paying because I forgot to. One of my friends run after me and inform me that I didn't pay.
Makar 01-23-2004, 10:43 AM I must admit to stealing wooden pegs from a craft store when I was five years old. :lolol: Of course, I didn't know I was stealing at the time, because they were lying on the floor, and I figured anything on the floor was fair game.
