View Full Version : best graphics designer software? le_creme 01-02-2004, 07:05 PM i would very much like some testimonials on photoshop or PSP. what about printshop? does that work well? or photo explosion? i've seen some at costco, but i'm not sure which one works best. Midnight2828 01-02-2004, 09:43 PM Adobe Photoshop is probably the the software that you're going to be able to do your most original work with. PSP is pretty good, but I think it just doesn't have so many professional things on it as much as Photoshop. I'm not very sure about Printshop? I have Photo Explosion and it is mostly template graphics. I mean that you can't add so many of your own touches or artisticness to the pictures. Help at all? jamslam 01-03-2004, 01:28 AM definitely photoshop.. nothing else comes close on a level of professionalism... That's what all the professionals use to make their graphics However, it does take *some* time to learn how to use it well. Sizzly 01-03-2004, 02:43 AM has anyone considered price? photoshop is going to cost you major $$$ if you don't already have it. print shop pro (PSP) is great, but i find myself using fireworks mx especially for text effects. Alcy 01-03-2004, 02:49 AM Printshop? Isn't printshop one of those programs that makes banners, greeting cards, etc.? That's what the printshop I have does. Although, in the newer version I have (which isn't the newest version), you can edit photos and images, but it's very limited. It's possible that a newer version would offer more. If it comes down to PS and PSP, I think you should just go for whichever one you can afford. PS costs 10x more than PSP. Something to keep in mind when asking for testamonials is that adobe (photoshop) has been around much longer than PSP. Also, most people only take the time to learn one program. Sinem 01-03-2004, 10:00 AM I peronly think that PSP is more simple then PS... You can find more tuts for PS though I think. Many people say PSP is so limited, but I think, if you start, and are still at your beginning, you should first master PSP because it can do thausends of stuff as well... If you are really fonfident with it you can even create wonderful layouts and that stuff. And if you are not really good, PS will not come out that good as PSP would have been for. Sinem Justine74 01-03-2004, 10:06 AM Although Photoshop is quite complex. I still prefer Photoshop. sky_juice 01-07-2004, 05:05 AM has anyone considered price? photoshop is going to cost you major $$$ if you don't already have it. The full Photoshop costs around $650, i think. You can download a trial version of Photoshop Elements, which has most of the stuff the full Photoshop has. If you're just starting out, Elements should be fine for you, and if you want to buy Elements, it costs a lot less than the full Photoshop, US$99. Check out the Adobe website: http://www.adobe.com Liz 01-07-2004, 03:18 PM I like photoshop the best. I've used both, and both can make really awesome graphics (if taken the time to learn how to use them), but I just find photoshop alot easier to use. If you're making a personal site, and don't have alot of money to spend you're better off with psp though. Neptune 01-07-2004, 06:08 PM I have never tried Photoshop or the like, but I do have Paint Shop Pro. It is fantastic for everything that I'm doing now. It's not half as much money as Photoshop (I think it's only somewhere around $80 online), and is very nice once you get used to it. amicus 01-07-2004, 07:26 PM photoshop is what i use, it's also what's used by professionals. you might be able to get a student discount but you'd have to be a student :). Sinem 01-08-2004, 12:39 PM I'll get it this weekend I think... but I used sooo many tuts for PS on PSP... You just have to be confident with PSP, then you know how to do the same stuff in PSP... and you find out things you never used befor... so go and look for PS tuts as well... Sinem lavalint 01-10-2004, 10:21 PM I use Photoshop...Read the rulez please, no illegal stuff on this forum MaGiCSuN 01-10-2004, 10:57 PM definitely photoshop.. nothing else comes close on a level of professionalism... That's what all the professionals use to make their graphics it still depends on how professional you are yourself. If you are bad with ideas, then no matter how advanched your program is you can't and will not be able to make good graphics. That's why i think there is no 'best' program because everyone has different ideas about it.. Yoshida 01-10-2004, 11:11 PM I would definitely say that Paint Shop Pro 8 or Photoshop would be the best. I have more experience with Paint Shop Pro 8, I don't care much if Photshop is more "professional". =P I have Printshop too, but I never have gotten to installing it on my computer, so I don't know how good it is. sjb 01-10-2004, 11:31 PM Personally i like paint shop pro better than photo shop because i understood how to use it faster than i ever did with photoshop, photoshop is more confusing to me, about pricing thats never been a problem for me...but ofcourse my brother was always the one that purchased them..:) |
