View Full Version : Not enough Memory, Yer right!
Anzrew 01-01-2004, 12:43 PM My computer is so slow, it freezes every 5 minutes and about 30 seconds later unfreezes when you wiggle the mouse farticaly, And there is not engough free momory on my computer so it tells me to close some programs, I closed all program windows, I even went in to end tas and got rid of evey thing running apart from the main things, then I re-tried to open the file again and it said not enough free memory, I had closed all the programs, if I had closed anything else the computer wouldn't work properly, stupid thing.
SO does any one know how to get more free memory, does that mean I have to but new hardware, or is there a program that bets rid of suff, i dont need and never use?

select "c" and run it to clean up your disk with TEMP files and stuff like that. Also doing a "defragmentation" (not formatting haha) is very good, because then the computer stores all the files that belong together again next to each other, and fills up the gaps so that free space comes free again :)
doing the disk cleanup atleast once a week is a very good thing, so that it keeps your harddisk nice and clean

Anzrew 01-02-2004, 01:02 PM My Defragment doesn't work, it goes up to 10% and then back to 0% and back to 10% and so on not sure why it does it tho
Peter 01-02-2004, 04:23 PM before you defrag make sure your virusscanner is off.....
after that it should work....
Anzrew 01-02-2004, 06:17 PM Ok, but even if I do scan disk it does the same as defrag to, but ill try

h34v3nslilang3l 01-03-2004, 10:26 PM ME is the worst version of microsoft in my opinion and then its xp...the only good thing about xp is that its more user-friendly
i used to have ME and it crashed so many times too
Loren 01-03-2004, 10:33 PM Ditto, I have XP though and it is pretty good. I like being able to send Microsoft Error notices. I can't wait for the next windows. I've seen previews and acording to Microsoft it is going to be another huge change like XP. I think it's supposed to come out in 2005 or 2006.
MaGiCSuN 01-03-2004, 10:35 PM are you ON the computer when you defragmentate? if so, go off... because everytime you open new internet pages (so new temp files come in) the scan starts over because the amount of files changes etc etc...
I mostly run the defragmentation at night, so that the morning i get up it's all finished :)

Mirna
Loren 01-03-2004, 10:50 PM Scan disk and defrag take forever on my computer because I have a 120 GB Harddrive I use 34 GB.
Sizzly 01-03-2004, 11:32 PM Scan disk and defrag take forever on my computer because I have a 120 GB Harddrive I use 34 GB.
how long is forever? I use 38 GB of my HD and it completes in less than an hour. of course, I run it fairly often. make sure to run it when you're not using the computer anyway.
Loren 01-04-2004, 12:00 AM I don't run it much but XP's silly scandisk insists on scanning the empty space to and doing everything in advanced mode so it takes 2 hours to run scandisk. I don't run defrag much because on time when I had like a 60 GB HD I tried to run it and after 30 min it was only like 2% though compressing data and hadn't even done a defrag.
So in short I rarly run defrag or scandisk because they take way too long.
h34v3nslilang3l 01-04-2004, 05:09 AM 2000 is better than XP see how many problems there are with xp?
MaGiCSuN 01-04-2004, 12:59 PM i have no problems with xp
anywayz, stick to topic please :)
