See, I just had XP installed a few months ago, and so it comes with a later version of MS Paint; I believe it is 5.1. Anyway, in the older version I had for Win '98, when you pasted an image into the box it would ask you if you wanted to make the box bigger for the whole image to fit, or leave it the way it is. Now, when I paste a bigger image into the smaller one, it doesn't ask me anything; it automatically makes the image bigger for the whole thing to fit, which I do not want in some cases. Is there any way to change this setting? It's driving me insane!

No, there isn't a way.... I do work very much with paint, though I have PSP7.
There are different ways to paste in an image. If you for example made a screenshot, the frame automaticly gets big like the image. If you want it small again, you have to go to picture>attributes> and then make the size of the pic smaller again. But you CAN'T make the whole pic smaller with everything in it, just smaller like a thumphnail. That just work with programs like PS and PSP and special thumpnailprogramms. You can download such Programms from http://www.shareware-base.de . But it is in German....

Yeah, that should work.

Thanks for all your help, but I'm afraid it's no use. Yes, in attributes you can change the width and height of the image, but does nothing when you paste an image into the available space; it just makes it bigger to fit the pasted image. It doesn't even ask you firsthand like it does in the older versions. I think that's a bit rude!
