Ok, this forum works a little differently than the other one. When you reach 500 posts, a minimal user reputation (10 pts.), and a certain amount of days registered, you are moved to a new user group. The new user group has better permissions and more perks. The perks for now are, a bigger pm box (twice as big), ability to add an avatar, upload a picture to your profile, and the ability to change your user title.

Enjoy!

Well, it's not for moderators  It's for regular registered users ;) A registered user automatically gets moved to a new, improved group when they meet certain criteria.

I'm still playing with the features, I'll add more soon ;)

lol I was wondering about that. I was looking around and it didn't want to work... us mods can probably do most of that stuff anyway though :P

hmmm, when I selected 'edit profile picture' it said:

Marianne, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

So does this mean all the people under 500 posts with avatar's now can't change them until they get to 500? I was hoping you wouldn't just let everyone have one. It ruins all the need to work.

Loren
12-28-2003, 05:04 PM
So now are the avatar sizes even smaller? Are we limited to 2.9KB and a tiny 50X50 image?

Oh, the thing is weird. It always says I'm limited to whatever the size and deminsions of my current avatar is. It lets me use other deminsion but it says I'm limited to these.

It's because you don't meet the minimum criteria for the new usergroup :stickout:

Loren
12-28-2003, 05:41 PM
I don't? I can change my title though, and I thought that was part of the group. So what exactly is the criteria?
500 posts (done)
a minimal user reputation (what is it, I'm a unknow quantity)
a certain amount of days registered (I probably meet it but how many?)

Sorry for being so much trouble :( I'm slow when it comes to all this fancy forum stuff....and also my account had problems with the title when I reached 1000 posts, I couldnt change it then either :( if it's too much trouble right now that's ok

*looks around very confussed*

ok... so how many different user groups are they? I think (once you have got them all done) you should post all of them and tell us what you get...like

if you are in this user group you get blah blah blah...

Another question:

so we loose points say if a Mod edits our post because they think we did something wrong? Well that wouldn't be totally fair because some new people might still not understand the rules all the way... even though I am not totally new I even do not understand the rules all the way *pats head*

I'm not sure exactly how many are given or taken away. It depends on how many points you have. The more points you have, the more you can give and take away from people.

Ooooh... fun!

It's "icon" now, instead of "choose your title" because you can't necessarily choose your own title when you've reached 500 posts, you have to have 10 reputation points and be registered for at least 30 days =)

westernrider
12-28-2003, 06:42 PM
ok... how can we see how many posts we have?

and do we get reputation from thoes little boxes with the check and x marks on them? If that is how you get reputation it could turn bad because people could start asking others for a good reputation mark...

*still very confussed*

Loren
12-28-2003, 06:48 PM
Yes that is how rep changes. Your number of posts is right about your post like I have 796.

Truly, it's not that easy to get 500 posts. For example, I've been at an RPG site for almost a half a year, and am a quite frequent user, and I only have about 300. I've just made it to Little Leauge here, and I was like yay!

Anywho that's the way the cookie crumbles, you get your ups and downs. As long as you are more into the forum and participate ;) it's pretty much what matters. Like there's a lot of people who come here, never post, and ask for stuff. Who appreciates that? What's important is that you stay not some points, same thing with posts.

westernrider

*nods head* I was really worried when I first heard it too... but then I realized I was being stupid... you can not do anything about it... it id other people who are giving it to you and the more you complane about it the more people dislike you... so just be your normal self and forget about the rep points... what is gonna happen in gonna happen.

My advice is to be a little nicer to people. It seems you're quite irritated a lot of the time, and people don't like that. The same person can't mark you more than a small amount of times, so the reputation thing is really about how the whole forum feels about a person, not just one person.

Cherchezlafemme

Ok what are the meanings of the blue and yellow dots on the rep thing? Decorations? Or something else because I'm confused...sorry for the dumb questions :(

Loren
12-29-2003, 08:53 PM
I think it is blue if you have a positive or mabey a rep of over 5 and if you have anything below that it is yellow. So I think yellow means you have a low rep and blue means you have a good rep.

Cherchezlafemme
12-29-2003, 09:03 PM

i would like to say that i read some of people's comments in my love advice topic through my mail box cuz i recieve an email each time people replies in a topic that i posted in and one day i can decide to give bad reputation to those that i don't like their comments.

Loren

Now that I don't understand. I get the little things that are blue and yellow next to your name but I don't get that. The way I have understood it so far is yellow does nothing to your rep blue improves it and red hurts it, but that is something Lissa needs to answer.

How to do it: Be nice and helpful to people. There's really nothing else you can actually do, anyways. But, of course, we all should've been being nice and helpful to people anyways, the reputation thing is just a nice bonus.

blue= you have a rep over 0

yellow= you have a rep of 0 or lower

you can see what your rep is by finding s post that you have posted and click on the little check mark thingy and it will tell you your rep :)

nooo it is because your rep is always changing... you start out with 0 rep points... and that means you start with a yellow dot... then someone thinks your post was helpful and they say I will give them a good rep for that... and it adds points... now you have a blue dot... then someone doesn't like your post and depending how many rep points you already have if they give you a bad rep it might put you back to 0 or even lower...now you have a yellow dot again...

Cherchezlafemme

Loren
12-29-2003, 11:13 PM
I don't mine is yellow, yellow, blue, red, yellow. I think since somehow your rep altering power changes. I think that the yellows just only slightly change your rep because the person didn't have much power, but the reds and blues change you rep more better or worse, because I had 7 points someone gave me a yellow and I still had 7 points so I think the yellows are spare, or mabey they are if someone is too lazy to click a button (good or bad). :)

12-29-2003, 11:17 PM
nooo it is because your rep is always changing... you start out with 0 rep points... and that means you start with a yellow dot... then someone thinks your post was helpful and they say I will give them a good rep for that... and it adds points... now you have a blue dot... then someone doesn't like your post and depending how many rep points you already have if they give you a bad rep it might put you back to 0 or even lower...now you have a yellow dot again...
We're talking about in your user panel on the main page under Last Rep Recived not the little thing by your total number of posts.

LesPaul59
12-29-2003, 11:18 PM
Then maybe it's blue is good, yellow is neutral, and red is bad. Cuz I have one blue and one yellow, and I have a 10 rating....So that might be it.

Neptune
12-29-2003, 11:20 PM
Mine is blue, yellow, yellow, blue, blue. That doesn't look like it's supposed to be aesthetic to me. Maybe it's the level of the people who gave them to you?

Loren
12-29-2003, 11:20 PM
I was thinking what Neptune thinks.

mabey, but how do you give a neutral rating?

Midnight2828
12-29-2003, 11:24 PM
Well neutral would mean your giving the person 0 points since it is in the middle. So what's the point of that?

Neptune
12-29-2003, 11:27 PM
You can only say, "I approve" or "I disapprove". I'm stumped

I know. I always try to leave a comment even if it's something generic like Thank you.

Neptune
12-29-2003, 11:34 PM
Yes! I agree. I'm normally thinking, "Thanks, but I have no idea why you did that." I'm not saying it isn't nice for the thought. I'm just curious about these things.

westernrider
12-29-2003, 11:37 PM
ohhh... now I get it... man... some people really do not like me!

"can you stop posting ever 3 minutes?"

that is what someone said... I like to talk... 0_0 I hope I havent been bothering people! that isn't very nice... :( I always try to leave comments like if I was that person I would say... please do not post so much... or something like that...

mabey the red is from someone important and it is bad

the yellow is also bad but it is from someone not important... like someone who is not a mod... and the blue is something good from anyone... ummmI do not know! I am basicly saying the same things all of you have been saying *shrug*

Neptune
12-29-2003, 11:39 PM

Loren
12-29-2003, 11:44 PM
Yes, the hired the better.

I have a yellow with a good comment so I think they are still good. I suppose we could test and find out if good comments actualy can come yellow.

Let's see if what I said to Neptune is Yellow or Blue.

Neptune
12-29-2003, 11:47 PM
Um... it was yellow... and no points added... whoever...

Edit: Oh, I guess it was you, Loren

You know... I think maybe I remember it being said that you only have a certain ammount a day, and you can't give more than one to a single person in a row. Maybe yellow IS neutral. Not giving any points, but still showing that one was given to you.

12-30-2003, 04:15 AM
I'm rather confused on the reputation thing...

I have 4 reputation things. two are blue, two are yellow. I viewed the particular posts, and when you click the reputation button on that post, it says "Your reputation on this post is [Positive/Even]"- on the blue ones it's positive, on the yellow it's even. does that mean that multiple people did those posts and their votes evened out (one said positive the other negative) or something? because on the two even ones it seems like posts that nobody would have done it on lol. but it does seem that each positive one gives you 10, because when I got my most recent one (which says my reputation for that post is positive) mine went up by 10.

this is so confusing :P

It took me til page 9 before I finally figured out that I have 0 points... it's yellow, how embarrassing. I'm not sure if I had more before, but it used to be blue. But as far as I gather, colors don't really mean anything. But I suppose since my reputation hasn't really been messed with, there isn't much to look at, but what's the talk of different dots with comments? Supposing someone found some post helpful or not so, where would I see their comments? Just by clicking the x with the check in the corner? Is the information different if you view it from a different post. Say... if this post was found annoying by all, and 5 people decided to lower my points, but no one reacted to my other posts, would I only see the 5 negative dots or whatever I'd see by clicking the x on this particular post, not just any? Ack, complicated. Let's go back to the days where your reputation was decided in the friendships you made with other forumers outside of the forum!

Marianne
12-31-2003, 08:30 AM
Duckgirl,
in the upper left hand corner you can click on 'User CP' and find out which post it was that people gave you good reputation for. (or bad rep., if you've been a bad girl, or if they happened to be in a foul mood).

Yes, but I have looked and looked on the user cp page and can find nothing about my reputation... maybe it's cause no one has commented on it, yet? I think my dot was yellow before, come to think of it. I had been under the impression that it was now showing online status.

But all I see on the user cp page is the links on top, title graphic, the little folder thingy, and to the right it welcomes me, tells when I last visited and private messages... then the top bar links... then the Control Panel, and to the right, my subscribed threads, forum jump menu bar, and at the bottom it tells me that all times are gmt - 8. And then comes the footer of the page... there seems to be nothing there about my reputation. Perhaps I should wait til someone has something to say about it!

I suppose so. Sorry for sounding a bit cruel, I was really tired. Insomnia isn't very fun..

And regarding what I said, I've got to back it up a little. I didn't say, "Why do we bother? It's so pointless!" I said, "Why do you care so much about it?" (or something like that). Because if I remember correctly, Cherchez was one of the people who didn't want to have those "Please give me reputations!" people hanging around, and then she started getting upset over having a lower reputation.

Hmm... this was originally about the new forum group thing, right? Presume you had enough rep points, posts, time spent, etc, to get in to the group. But... if people dock your rep points enough, what would happen? Would you be removed from the group until your rep points got higher again? Or, once you are admitted to the group, do you just stay there? I mean, it's not a big deal, I'm just curious.

And I agree, this dot stuff is getting kinda ridiculous... but I was kinda confused until I figured it out. A dot's a dot. People don't shun you because your dot isn't blue or because you don't have many. I mean... would your friends decide they didn't want to associate with you any more if you showed up wearing somehow "substandard" clothes? Not if they're good friends... and I think that if people see that your posts help, and that you're a neat person to be around, they'll continue to be friendly, no matter what your "reputation" stands at. An automated system really can't judge what kind of asset to the forum you are, so this is the best that can be done so far. Don't let it bug you that some person being annoying is docking your points because it doesn't change anything, except the size of your PM box, or whatever!

Go to your user CP. You'll see how many you have there.

Click the little check and X picture at the top of your post and a window will popup that says how many rep points you have.

I have no clue what the yellow ones do but they don't bring your points back to zero. Plus someone gave me one with a blue dot and I didn't get anymore points.

Ravie

Yeah the yellow ones are neutral. They give you no points at all. Kinda pointless
