View Full Version : World Idol
Karen_ 12-26-2003, 02:45 AM Anyone watch it?
I liked them all pretty much. I might be a little bias, but I hope Ryan (Canada) wins. I just love his voice.
I think the guy with the glasses was awesome too, but the judges didn't like him. The U2 guy and the Nirvana guy were good too.. And the Poland girl was cute.
I think Kelly (US) was the best, but she might have a disadvantage because she's American, and some people don't want an American to win (which is kind of unfair).
Anyway, what do ya think?
Edit: You can only have 10 options to the poll. I left out Pan Arabic, so just post if you liked Miss Diana Karzon the best (I wish my last name was Karzon)
Valkyrie 12-26-2003, 04:05 AM Oops. I completly forgot about it. o_o
Valkyrie 12-26-2003, 05:13 AM I watched the last half. Peter, the guy from Belgium, sung Nirvana's "Lithium" pretty well. And the Norwegian guy did well too.
:stickout:
Ayosu_Ling 12-26-2003, 05:43 AM What's "world idol"?
Sheila 12-26-2003, 07:45 AM Karen you liked the same people I did....I also liked the guy from the UK. :)
I voted for Norway. He was the U2 guy right?
What's "world idol"?
World Idol -> http://www.worldidol.tv/
Peter 12-26-2003, 09:10 AM I really liked that kid from norway, who cares about looks....thos judges are actors anymways....bad actors that is....
peter from belgium should start a metal band right now, that kid has a real good rock voice,a little too much metallica from the old days but that's ok...
now if they only would get a metal idol program,so i could write myself in:)
(i have the song ready too)
bubblegummy 12-26-2003, 10:11 AM I completely missed it lol :( Who won? I can't find any results on the website.
Sheila 12-26-2003, 10:19 AM I completely missed it lol :( Who won? I can't find any results on the website.
Taken from site:
Viewers in each country will choose the winner through a phone vote with the results broadcast over New Year.
I say ONE commercial for it. I was going to watch but completely forgot about it. I have all the luck.
Midnight2828 12-26-2003, 06:11 PM Darn! I missed it too...I was pumped about watching...rrr, that makes me soo mad.
Anyways, results are going to be in one New Years? Anyone know if they are all going to sing one more song or something?
Cherchezlafemme 12-26-2003, 06:11 PM that belgium dude scares me  he needs a haircut lol
Valkyrie 12-26-2003, 06:14 PM that belgium dude scares me  he needs a haircut lol
I like his hair though. Hehehe :stickout:
Cherchezlafemme 12-26-2003, 06:20 PM i mean long hair is nice but when it looks scary it's not so nice :P
jazzberry 12-26-2003, 09:40 PM I liked the last guy, from Norway I believe, we voted for him! I also liked the guy that sang Lithium, but he's not meant for that show/title. It's supposed to be pop music, he's more metal and stuff. I get what the Canadian fellow said about Kelly's voice though, at the climax of the song it kinda did sound like shouting in tune. But her performance was still amazing none the less. I caught a bit of Ryan Malcome's performance too it was ok.
I can't wait to see the results!
MaGiCSuN 12-26-2003, 10:28 PM I think the guy with the glasses was awesome too, but the judges didn't like him.
are you talking about Jamai from Holland? *wink wink* :D
zangerbanger 12-26-2003, 11:56 PM I didn't really like Ryan Malcolm when he won Canadian Idol, but I'm cheering for him because he's REPRESENTING CANADA!
I thought Kelly Clarkson from USA and Heinz Winckler (sp?) from South Africa were good too :) .
Midnight2828 12-27-2003, 12:40 AM Sooo, what time are they broadcasting the results?
I'm Eastern Time by the way...
starlet 12-27-2003, 04:05 PM I cant stand Kelly clarkson, argh, her singing style just makes me want to throw things at the TV, like Mariah Carey and all those other American singers who just shout and worble for 3 minutes! *head explode*
I like the nirvana guy...but not for POP idol...i liked the German guy but the only one i really liked was the toothy one from the netherlands :D
westernrider 12-27-2003, 04:13 PM I cant stand Kelly clarkson, argh, her singing style just makes me want to throw things at the TV, like Mariah Carey and all those other American singers who just shout and worble for 3 minutes! *head explode*
I like the nirvana guy...but not for POP idol...i liked the German guy but the only one i really liked was the toothy one from the netherlands :D
0_0 I know what you mean...
where they are like
"whoaoaoaoaoaoaohohohooooooooooooooo
ooooooohohohohohohohohhowwawawahohohohohohWHOOOOOO O
OOOOOOOOOOOOO" for a hour or longer... yeah pretty anoying... but they have such good voices! Mariah Carey how one of the best voices I have ever heard... mabey we should just tell them to wobble less
:pen: Dear Mariah Carey,
.....
Cherchezlafemme 12-27-2003, 08:26 PM well i dunno i dont like pop, Ruben Studdard should of gone to it. He's sings so well he's a lot more talented than Kelly and my dad actually has his CD. It's a real surprise b/c he doesn't like R&B and that other stuff lol
zangerbanger 12-27-2003, 10:29 PM American Idol 2 was rigged. Clay was so much better than Ruben, yet he only got second? If the US is going to win this, the best shot they have is Clay.
MaGiCSuN 12-27-2003, 10:34 PM but the only one i really liked was the toothy one from the netherlands :D
haha you go girl! :stickout:
i don't really like kelly clarkson as well.. i liked "miss independent" but that's probably because it was more of a funky song without the "ohhohohoohooohowhoaoaohaoaa" stuff LoL. The song she won with is really far away from my taste :P
Love,
Mirna
starlet 12-28-2003, 12:21 AM I think thats the problem with her, shes without doubt a great singer, but she sings in the stereotypical american style...which most of the rest of the world can't stand! I doubt she'll win, at least i hope not!
westernrider 12-28-2003, 12:33 AM "stereotypical american style?"
america doesn't have a singing style... no country has a singing style because there are many different types of who like different things... I know you said stereotypical but that is not really fair... I could say that hollands style of music is yodeling but that would not be fair... just because some people in the country might sing like that shouldn't be the way people think that, that is the way the style is... I hope that makes sence... somethimes I will think stuff in my head but when it comes out it sounds all wrong
Supernick 12-28-2003, 01:03 AM Why The French Idol Winner Isn't There? They Did A French Idol, I Dunno Who Won It But I Know That They Did A French Idol. :(
Karen_ 12-28-2003, 03:36 AM "stereotypical american style?"
america doesn't have a singing style... no country has a singing style because there are many different types of who like different things...
She didn't say that America only had one style of music, she said the "stereotypical style", which is the kind of music people from other countries think of when they think of American music.
I could say that hollands style of music is yodeling but that would not be fair
That wouldn't be fair, but if you said their 'stereotypical' style of music is yodeling, that is true if you think of yodeling when you think of music from Holand. Stereotypes aren't good, but they do exist.
Anyway, I do think the U2 guy will win, and he should too. I would still like to see Ryan Malcolm win though, even though he might not be the best, lol.
What did you guys think of the UK guy? Did he have an off night, or does he always sound like that? lol I guess it's just not my style.
starlet 12-28-2003, 04:10 PM To westernrider - Yeah, what Karen said...when you think of Holland you think yodelling even though you know its just a stereotype you still think of it, theres no avoiding that...just like when i think of American singers i think of Mariah Carey/Kelly Clarkson style singing even though i know not everyone sings like that.
To Karen - Kind of an off night, i cant remember if i said it here or i said it on my forum but i was disapointed he did light my fire cos he does sing it funny, and we love it...but i didnt think other countrys would...but thats the song that sort of made him stand out in the finals over here...he was well known for singing it oddly lol So no, not really an off night...that is how he sings that song, but he sings others much nicer and more normal...download Evergreen or Leave Right Now if you want to see what hes like normally lol
Sheila 12-28-2003, 04:48 PM "stereotypical american style?"
I could say that hollands style of music is yodeling but that would not be fair...
People in Holland don't yodel. I believe that's Austria and Switzerland.
Peter 12-28-2003, 05:08 PM Westernrider, this is it for me,you think you know holland?? holland is not a stereotype for yodeling, that is SWITZERLAND,that is about 4 hours of flight from here,
first off all,get your facts straight before you type in all of this nonsense....THANK YOU!!!
jazzberry 12-28-2003, 06:55 PM yeah in Vocal our teacher is always critisizing us when we sing like Pop singers, the "stereotypical american" way I guess. There's a whole thread on Nova about pronouncing vowels and stuff, and it's quite amusing because of the different ways we say things. SO whenever we sang "and" it had to sound like "ahnd" and yeah so I can see where you're coming from
Yeah and I do believe the Canadian judge was right to say that she was shouting with tone you know? That's how a lot of music you hear on the radio sounds like anyway, oh well.
westernrider 12-28-2003, 06:57 PM haha... I KNOW HOLLAND DOESN"T YODEL... that is my point...Not every one in america wobbles and goes on like that... very few do... I LOVE HOLLAND BY THE WAY... I have many people I know that live there and I would never say anything against it :)
I hate steriotypes... I try to just think of the people and not things like people yodel or woble... that is all... really all of us are right because it is all our opinion and no one can change that :) what everone said makes sence
sorry if I offended you Peter with the yodeling... I know they do not yodel... I am sure SOMEONE in holland yodels though :)
Sheila 01-02-2004, 05:41 AM I voted for Norway. He was the U2 guy right?
And he (Kurt Nilsen) is the one who won (http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/01/01/world.idol.ap/index.html)!!! Yahoo!!!!
Valkyrie 01-02-2004, 05:45 AM I missed it. :crying:
Grrr...
Well, at least Peter came in third... :buckt:
Ravie 01-02-2004, 06:36 AM Uh didn't even know there where having this Word Idol thing. As for the American one being rigged. I don't think it really was. Just that more people who voted liked the type of music Ruben sung. He was also very popular and people will vote for someone that like personality wise even if said person isn't the best at whatever he or she is doing. Alteast that's what I have heard.
*skips around* I can yodel.. I can yodel.. :confusion
zangerbanger 01-02-2004, 06:39 AM I'm not happy with Kurt winning... There were many Idols who were WAY better than he was. People only felt sorry for him because he looks like a hobbit :stickout: .
duckgirl 01-02-2004, 06:50 AM Those co-hosts looked kinda like Merry and Pippin... not really, but the one always on the light does kinda look like Pippin... hmm. Well... Kelly Clarkson has a strong voice, but I'm not fond of long, soulful ballads like the idols were belting out last season. And for any who watched american idol 1, I stopped voting once tamyra grey, who's definitely my favorite, got kicked off, but Kelly was probably the best of the other contestants left. I didn't see the first world idol show, heh, but in seeing the results show, when Kurt sang, he did sing well. That's a cool song. And the whole idea... Kelly Clarkson has an album, has had successful singles, and has become well known. Perhaps it's just international differences, but I'm assuming that more people in the world know who she is than know who Kurt Nilson is. People tend to figure, well, yeah, there's Kelly, who sounds nice and polished, but I really like this guy, and he may not win, but I'm voting anyway! But no one gets anything from this world idol title, do they? Perhaps the benefit is that now, more people know who he is. So, congrats to Kurt.
Karen_ 01-02-2004, 09:15 AM I don't think that Kellys fame goes far out of the US, actually. I'm only in Canada, and I hardly hear about her, except on American Idol. Her video didn't really do well over here either.
I'm glad the hobbit won lol, people always seem to go for the under dog. Kelly looked a little upset that she didn't win, I don't blame her really. The judges all said she was by far the best singer in the compitition, and she didn't end up winning. She probably deserved it more than the hobbit, but there's something refreshing about seeing someone who doesn't has perfect looks win a compitition like that lol.
I can't believe Ryan (Canada) didn't do better.. I thought he would be like, top four. I guess it all comes back to music styles and stuff. It was funny looking at the other countries votes, and thinking "WHAT?!", and then once I saw Canadas votes I was like.. "oh, that's more like it".
<offtopic> Anyone who watched Canadian Idol, do you remember Jenny Gear? How did she make it pass the auditions? I didn't get it! She didn't even sing, she just talked during a song, and even then her talking voice wasn't even nice. I honestly thought it was a joke when she got into the top eleven. </offtopic>
Anyway, excuse the typos and the parts that probably don't make sence, it's almost 6:30am, and I can't sleep :P
Sheila 01-02-2004, 09:53 AM We thought Kelly looked upset too, and I also thought Ryan should have gotten more points.
I can't believe people actually gave that German guy more than 1 point. He was so awful.
starlet 01-02-2004, 03:00 PM I was gonna say about Kelly, does she always look like shes about to throw a hissy fit or cry everytime something isnt going her way? The only time she smiled or looked happy was when someone gave her the full 10 points rather than placing her second or third!
Will was amusing me, he kept hitting his head and looking hurt when he didnt get a lot of points...if you know Will Young thats funny, if you dont it probably looked like he was seriously upset or something heh I'm glad he got fifth, obviously he should have won...but his perforance and appearance on the big night werent that great (he shouldnt have sung light my fire grr) so 5th is good :D
Glad Kurt won, he was the one i wanted to win...though in all honesty, as long as it wasnt Kelly that won id have been happy :P
edit: Who came last?
kittycat 01-02-2004, 04:07 PM <offtopic> Anyone who watched Canadian Idol, do you remember Jenny Gear? How did she make it pass the auditions? I didn't get it! Wasn't it something about "uniqueness" or the like? I remember her for sure, I never really liked her, but there must have been something different that made them decide to send her on :P
I didn't watch the first part of this world idol thing, but I watched the results last night... I was soooo glad Kelly didn't win though, and the Norwegian guy was pretty cool :P
pixiegrrl 01-02-2004, 04:11 PM I wanted Kellie to win :(
Sheila 01-02-2004, 04:24 PM edit: Who came last?
Jamai from the Netherlands
Neptune 01-02-2004, 04:56 PM I haven't seen any of the orginal Idol stuff, but last night my cousins were watching the last thing of the World Idol one. I was really suprised to see that voice coming out of that guy! I thought he didn't do half bad :P I don't know what any of the others sounded like though.
go_anna40 02-12-2004, 05:56 AM Those co-hosts looked kinda like Merry and Pippin... not really, but the one always on the light does kinda look like Pippin... hmm.
Hehe!! That's exactly what I said when I saw World Idol!!!
Anyway, this might be just a tad late but anyway. I'm quite happy that Kurt won, he sang great! And I think Will Young and Heinz Winckler [what a funny name!] were a bit overrated. And I think Guy Sebastian was underrated [I'm trying not to be biast here :) ] but I'm sure he sang better than the placing he got. Oh well, it's not as if the winner wins a million bucks or anything.
Emilie 02-15-2004, 03:28 PM I saw it and I loved Kurt and Peter
I'm from Holland and the race for the winner of the dutch Idols was very unfair
The 2 that were left were Jim and Jamai
Jim was THE MOST populair guy, right now he still is, he makes more hits then Jamai, sells more CD's then Jamai and appears on tv more then Jamai
The only problem was: He was 15
You have a limited time you can ben on tv if you're 15 or under over here
So the judges aka the new managers ect of the winner, knew that if Jim would win he couldn't be shown on tv as much as Jamai would because he was 16
So what did they do?
They gave Jamai a very fun and happy sing-along song
and Jim a bad repeating boyband ballad
So you can guess who won.
Also, the fans of Jim, the teen girls, weren't allowed to vote because they all smsed, but you have to send 1 sms for € 0,70 then you get another one back for € 0,70 and you get a thankyou from your idol for another € 0,70
The parents have to pay all that, so that wasn't happening
The fans of Jamai were the rest of the kids who weren't like the tippical teen girl
Anyway, I hated Jamai
He's ugly, can't sing, can't speak English and did I mention he's ugly?
Another ugly, but very funny guy I think should've been in world Idol was the German Daniël
He looks like a girl, acts like a girl, but he's sooooo funny!
Anyway, I think Kurt was the best to win, coz Kelly and Will already were ahead of the race because Will was the most famous and Kelly already broke through in several countries.
Hyarastorni 05-09-2004, 05:11 AM Apparently our idol was good. Australia that is.
