SizzZzlinhair
12-25-2003, 03:24 AM
:D How about "Secret Admirerer" for Valentine's Day.. that sounds better than Secret Heart :P

But I think two per year is enough.. otherwise people get sick of it all.

that would be really awsome Loren... I must asume it was complicated asigning everyone partners.... wasn't it?

Nah, it was easy.. and fun! :D I wrote everyone's name down, then I wrote them down again and cut them up. Then I put them in a hat and juggled them around, and went right down my list of names that were already written down. Say I had this order:

kicker91
starlet
LesPaul59

Then I would pick 3 numbers, and it would come out..

kicker91- lefty91
starlet- Alcy
LesPaul59- Cherchez

Those were just names I picked out of my head, but that would mean that kicker had lefty, starlet had Alcy, and LesPaul had Cherchez.

I'd rather do things this way, because I think that people are getting too lazy in making computers do everything for them. It was fun, and what is this world coming to if people can't pick names from a hat? :P

There's a script (for a different forum, however), that lists all the members by gender.

Marianne

I had fun with secret Santa.
As for secret valentine's, these days they don't have to be opposite genders, do they?

Loren
12-26-2003, 09:36 PM
I guess not.

I wonder why mostly girls join this?

The reason I was thinking to make a program was so people could type in what they wanted and then the person could get them something like what they want. I suppose you could just make a thread though and say, "Post what you want, " and then the person could just go look and find what their person wanted.

Marianne
12-26-2003, 09:45 PM
hmmm, dunno about that, because some people are really good at making one thing and others are good at something else. So suppose you have a great voice and want to record yourself singing, and this person asks for a new lay-out, for example...
I would freak out if anyone asked me to sing, that's for sure, or if someone asked something to do with anime, because I know nothing about that.

I wouldn't. She sounds scary.

Just kidding. :D

For Valentines I always give them to girls, never really to boys. In our school if you give a Valentine to a boy it always seems to mean you like them..

Same here. The boys never realy give valentines to anyone except their "girlfriend." (If they have one.) The girls give valentines to all their friends (girls) and I believe to their "boyfriend."

So, since Elementary school I've never had to do anything for valentines day.

As for me, I'd rather do it with a different holiday. I don't really celebrate Valentine's day.

MaGiCSuN
12-26-2003, 11:46 PM
if we all should think like that then i think we can better delete this idea :)
because i don't celebrate xmas as in presents etc... i don't celebrate valentine's day because i don't have someone to celebrate with it for example.. I don't celebrate easter because ... there is simply not much to celebrate lol and on and on and on....

Neptune
12-26-2003, 11:48 PM
True, but I think this one would be very different from the Christmas one. Dunno. No skin off my back. I don't have to do this one if I don't want to :)

MaGiCSuN
12-27-2003, 12:00 AM
i'm not saying you have to do this :) that's my point... we can do valentines but you don't have to participate (sp?) if you don't want to :)
Same with easter, i'm fine with that if people want that.. but i don't think i will participate :)

Loren
12-27-2003, 12:09 AM
Easter is one of my favorite holidays. :bunny:
I don't realy think presents should be with it though, it has enough glory in itself. (and a whole lot to do with my website :) ) I think mabey 1 thing every 4 months is good if we do this too much it will get tiring very quickly.

MaGiCSuN
12-27-2003, 12:12 AM
 haha no easter for me no :) well yeah we do celebrate it in Holland, but not something special like you have valentine's day with flowers/hearts and christmas with gifts a tree and stuff like that. In the early years we painted eggs etc, but i'm not in the mood for that anymore.. for children it's great though :)

well for some people it has special christian meanings that I am not going to get into because I might make some people mad...

I think we should do all of these holidays... even if you do not celebrate it... come on... you could make them a avatar with a easter egg on it ect. :)

Easter
Valentines Day
Christmas

Marianne
12-27-2003, 11:25 AM
true, Easter is mostly a religious thing. For me, it's mostly a day off work :D

bubblegummy
12-27-2003, 11:38 AM
The religion thing isn't really an issue, is it? Because we had people of all religions doing the Santa one (I'm atheist for example, but still celebrate Christmas... but not for the Christian reasons), it would probably be the same for other things. Not everyone celebrates Easter but it'd still be fun just to send people eggs and stuff :P

Loren
12-27-2003, 02:35 PM
I never thought we had so many religions on here. It seems I forget everyone isn't like me. I guess I'm use to living in the US where it seems almost everyone is of a Christian Denomanation (Baptist, Catholic, Prodestent, ect). I'm Baptist, but I know a lot of people from the other demoanations.

For me easter has a lot to do with religion and just a little to do with bunnies and candy. Christmas also has a lot to do with religion, but I think it also has a lot to do with presents too sometimes so much people forget why we actualy have it.

westernrider
12-27-2003, 03:59 PM
I am Christian also... but it really SHOULDN'T matter because say like Bob (he is imaginary :P) was christian and Billy (also made up) was Jewish... and we are doing a Christmas Secret Santa... well Billy could still make something Christmasy for Bob even though he is not Christian... and Bob could make Billy...like a snowflake avatar... because that is not religous at all.

kicker91
12-27-2003, 04:08 PM
I am jewish, but I really don't care if I participate in secret santa or secret easter bunny or whatever. in 5th grade it was 'Secret Snowman' (how corny) and then this year it was 'Gift Exchange.' hmm whatever.

Loren
12-27-2003, 04:28 PM

westernrider
12-27-2003, 04:51 PM

Marianne
12-27-2003, 05:28 PM
if the fact that we have a lot more females on the forum interferes too much with Valentine, I'm fine with doing something for Easter instead. I think it would be easier to do an egg-animation anyway ;)

12-27-2003, 05:32 PM

I don't celebrate it because I never have anything to celebrate that day... However, if we did do something on the forum (even if it was a simple online gift exchange), it would make the day less depressing. Since some of us don't have a person to spend the day with, why not with our friends at LEIA?

SizzZzlinhair
12-27-2003, 10:48 PM
I don't see why the girls have to get a boy and vice versa for the Secret Admirer thing. I think we could just do the picking like we did for the SS.

kittycat
12-27-2003, 10:52 PM
What about a Valentine's day fan sign kind of thing? Doesn't matter who gets who, just make a fansign for the other person, or a gift like this last one if you want. Don't make it 'secret admirer', make it 'secret friend' or something

Just a silly suggestion :P

Neptune
12-27-2003, 11:51 PM
I agree with Kittycat. I generally think if it's more set up on a girl getting a guy and vice versa it would be less randomized, which was part of the fun. And I'm pretty sure no one has romantic intentions here, so it wouldn't matter whether it was a girl or guy because it wouldn't be something lovey-dovey or whatever (as one tends to associate with the holiday), just a friendly gift.

Loren

Well I don't think gender should be a problem in any of these said events. It's not like any of these thinks are really suppose to be romantic etc. I am a male and uh sometimes active here, when I have time :p.

The school I went to had a few of these things. There was one during Fall called Secret Leaf. Weirdness.... weirdness.

Makar
01-02-2004, 01:43 AM
Secret Leaf...? Heh, that is weird.

I remember in elementary school (eh, I don't think I spelled that right) we had to participate in St. Valentine's Day and give everyone in our class a Valentine. Gee, I'm glad that's over. :P

Ravie
01-02-2004, 07:44 AM
It had to do with the schools policy of having nothing to do with any religions. Therefore there was no Secret Santa or Valentine, as those are associated with religious holidays. Even though Santa isn't actually a religious icon. They have things like Leaf, Snowball, Bird, Tree, Pineapple, Acorn etc.

I actually heard that one year they had Secret Musrhooms :confusion.

Makar
01-02-2004, 08:23 AM
Wow, and look at that, all nature-oriented. :confusion

I don't see any religious problem with Valentines though...erm...I know it was started by a guy named St. Valentine, but I don't know the whole story behind it.

Marianne
01-02-2004, 09:06 AM
Santa was kind of invented by Coca Cola, but long before there was a Coca Cola, we already had Saint Nickolas, though he does not allpear at christmas, I'm pretty sure Santa was based on our Saint, so therefore, I think he originates from a religious icon.

As for the secret mushrooms, I'm sure you can buy them here too ;)

Makar
01-02-2004, 09:25 AM
What are you saying? LEIA sells shrooms? Whoa, the things that go over my head.

Marianne

no, I didn't mean "here, at LEIA".
I live in Holland, so...

Ravie
01-02-2004, 02:50 PM
Mushroom... Mushroom.. BadgerBadgerBadgerBadger BadgerBadger Mushroom....Mushroom..

Santa Claus is based on Saint Nicolas who was actually the patrant saint of Sailors amonst other things. We don't really accciate him as a saint now though. They picture most people have now is from a Coke add which was actually a mixer of a lot of different Santa's at the time. He's just some chubby man who lives at the North Pole and has reindeer etc.

Actually Saint Valentine's Day originally was called Feast of Lubercus. It was changed to Saint Valentine's Day later and then boys or males drew names of saints. They had to emulate whichever saint for a year etc. Later it was changed back to drawing female names. Which it was to begin with blah blah there is more info but I don't wanna get into that.

Side note: My sons seem to think Santa is a clown. :confusion

SSPrincess
01-02-2004, 05:28 PM
I'm a bit late, but I think Secert Santa was a good idea. Only problem is whenever someone puts down SS, I keep on thinking they mean me, which means I've somehow become very popular...:stickout:
