Generally, when people think of Florida they think of old people and vacations.

Yeah, I say coke. Even when I'm ordering something to drink, I'll ask for coke. And they'll be like, "Uhh... is Pepsi okay?"
What about the whole soda, pop, and soda-pop thing? I say soda.

I just say coke, even though I don't drink coke, when I go someplace like fast food where you get your own drink I just say "I'd like a small coke". I think I would get laughed at if I say "I'd like some pop please" :D

Am I the only one from New Jersey? :crying: Ahh well....my parents moved to NJ from PA before I was born, so all of my relatives live in PA, except for my grandpa, and my Great Aunt & Uncle. It'd take three sleighs to get to Grandmother's house. ;)

Heh...Peter...when you said Greystone Restaurant, you reminded me of something amusing I saw once. My mom was taking my sister to here soccer practice a few months ago, and since there was a lot of traffic, she wanted to see if going another way would be quicker. To make a long story short, she got lost, but in being lost, we wound up at Greystone (they weren't taking anymore crazies, so I didn't get dropped off there :lol: ) and as we were leaving Greystone, I saw a sign for "Greystone Gift Shop." A gift shop at a mental institution? Will wonders never cease....:rolleyes:

on a chat I actually had someone ask me what my pet sheep name was and I was like "wha...?" and they were like "haha you know... everyone in Texas has sheep!" stuff like that makes me so mad...

haha... my aunt used to live in holland... some people would ask her if she wore her hair in pig tails and wore poofy red shirts with green aprons (sp?) and clogs... I think we just have to admit it... people can be really stupid sometimes :p

I personally think it has to do with movies and tv. thats what is shown of texas and holland, so thats what a lot of people think. Same goes for NY. Not many people talk about other places (like masena (sp?)) in that state. All we here about is NYC this NYC that. I've never been to holland or scotland or texas, but I'm sure it's not really like what is shown on tv and movies.

At least that's my opinion :rolleyes:

I live in Canada :) . I found it kind of weird when you put Quebec in brackets. I know there was the big thing on Canada separating and all, but they never did. Therefore, Quebec is still technically part of Canada :) .

PS: I could be wrong about your reasons behind the brackets.

*squishes up face* I like him and all but he is not always right... he was talking about rattle snakes and he said they can only get 3 feet long... they can get up to 6-7 feet... and he was talking about Texas snakes so I know... I have seen a few of them... sorta scary when you are just walking around and you hear it hissing.

I wish I lived there also... then again I have never been there *ponders*

there is this guy who goes to our school and he is obsessed with Austrailia... he goes around talking in that accent... very scary.

we'll separate soon, you should move to ontario or another province if you don't wanna live in the République Démocratique Du Québec when it's gonna be independant. :D

and when Québec will separate, we should use the american dollar. Canada and Mexico should also use the american dollar and all the north american countries will use the same money as they does in Europe.

Sorry, everyone says that I should share my opinion and defend it, but it's not my thing. You have your ideal thought, and I've got mine. It's normal, we're two different people. Sorry if I bothered you :( but thats my opinion, just like you've got yours. I really think people should be allowed to have their own opinions, I guess that's why I can't voice mine or defend it. What happens with Québec happens. I'm not gonna move because of it, I have moved to much already. Sorry if I'm rambling on and sounding stupid, oh well.

no, you're wrong. i don't want that USA runs all the north america. i think it would be better that all the countries in north america have the same money but each 4 countries (Québec, USA, Canada and Mexico) stays independent. In Europe, they all have the same money (except a few countries) but there is no country that runs all the Europe.

What I meant was I don't like the idea of all converting to american money like you had proposed.

i think PQ tried their "separation" idea about 3 or 4 times.
to date... PQ is still one of Canada's provinces.
everyone does (and are allowed) to have their own opinions on the matter.

i live on the opposite side of the country. my opinion is a seperation would be a loss to both sides. think if some of the US states decided to go independant. if you are old enough to know about it... when the USSR broke down into independant states, it had some very mixed results.

separation wouldn't be a loss for Québec, it's the opposite. Québec alone would be richer than the Canada. right now we pay more tax to Canada than new brunswick, nova scotia, newfoundland, etc but Canada divides it almost equally to the province when they invests money in things. i dunno if you understand what i mean.

being one nation is about accepting different cultures and beliefs.

Canada is not one nation. Québec is a nation, a nation that is a part of another nation, which means Canada is formed with two different nation, one of them wants and should separate. even Lester B. Pearson said that Québec is a nation, i readed it in a book.

I also live in NY, about 2 hours away from NYC (lefty, I thought you were a hair closer?), and I've only been there a few times. my parents brought me to a couple Yankees games when I was younger, and every year my school newspaper goes to a high school journalism conference at Columbia University, and I've been on that twice.

I dislike New York State- they do some dumb things. did you know that NYS has a tax on TIRES? yes, when my parents picked up their new car, the dealer was adding up the charges (price, fees, taxes, etc.) and mentioned the $10 in tire tax. yep, for every new tire, the state gets $2 :P (and it added up to $10 because there are the 4 tires on it plus the spare :P)

I've seen infomercials on late at night with Erik Estrada selling property in Florida (only $12,900! :P), and one of their selling points was that apparently in Florida there's no state income tax :P

and NY tried the no sales tax on clothing thing. I think my county got rid of their part of it, so on clothing tax was like 4.25% as opposed to the normal 7.25% (which has since gone up to 8.25%), then the state got rid of theirs so it was .25% (which only some places charged) because there was some other tax stuck in there too, then either the state or the county stopped it then I think the other one did too, so now it's the full amount again :P

Ontario and Québec (don't know for the other Canadian provinces) have, I think, about fifteen percent taxes on just about everything you wanna buy. I think in Ontario though, things deemed necesities have no taxes. Ex: Pure juice and water has no taxes but iced tea and punches do.

Yep, that's true - don't have to pay tax on your groceries, but when you go to a restaurant and eat you do kind of thing ;) At least I think that's how it works, last time I looked at a grocery bill there was little to no tax on it and it wasn't exactly only like a few apples or something :P

Anyway, I live in Canada, Ontario more specifically :P

Tennessee has no income tax and no tax on foods, but there is around 9% tax on everything else. So you could go the store and buy tupperware and a loaf of bread and you would be charged tax on the tupperware but not the bread, kinda strange to me.
what if you put the bread in the tupperware? half tax? :)

Canada has 7% GST (Goods and Services Tax) all across.
i think Quebec has a 7% provincial tax (TVQ).
Alberta has no provincial tax.
BC has a 7.5 provincial tax (PST).

The tax in the eastern provinces is known as HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) and i believe it is 15%. it may be two taxes combined into one, can't remember.

that's the same way New York is- no tax on food that you would get at the supermarket, but there is tax on food that is served to you, like at a restaurant.

the sales tax varies depending on the county, but I think the state's portion is something like 3.5%, so you wouldn't be able to get it lower than that. my county has 8.25%, the next county over is 8.25% also I think- it was 7.75% when my county's was 7.25%, and I think they raised theirs .5%.

and that's just the regular sales tax on most things- doesn't include the extra taxes on tires, alcohol, nicotine products, gas, etc. NY has a lot of tax on gas, so it's much more expensive than in neighboring states. like the last time I went to Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ, i went with a friend, and his mom purposely got just enough gas in NY to get across the state border, then bought gas there because it's so much cheaper. and a lot of times people that are really close to the Pennsylvania border for example, only buy gas across the state line. they do the same thing with cigarettes I believe, because I think in NY they're more expensive than in other nearby states.

Oklahoma has taxes on everything, i forget what it is but it's between 7.5 and 8..i can't remember, it creeps up slowly every year. Food or no food...there's tax.

France has between 19 and 20% :P but it's already put in the price so you don't have a heart attack at the checkout ;)

ps- if there's a state where there's no tax, i would leave Québec to move to this state. :)

It seems you're laughing at me with this post. Jacques parizeau's book isn't fiction like dr. suss' book. His book is about his reasons why he's a separatist and why Québec should separate from Canada. You can also read some of his speach he did while he was Québec's prime minister.

In his book there's a quote from Lester B. Pearson. Mr Pearson said while he was the prime mimister of Canada that Québec is a nation that is part of another nation. That's why i said Mr. Parizeau checked everything twice to make sure it's right.

I live in Arkansas, yayness :D I hate the sterotypes that we are all stupid and no one owns shoes, etc. But I am the "sterotypical" country girl/tomboy/hick, so haha. I always say "y'all", and my friends even make fun of me for saying "yonder", as in "I live over yonder". And people tell me I have a drawn out accent...I live in a little town of 600+, and my school is 30 minutes away, and acutally closer to a city of 20,000+. Anyway, the people of my town and the people of the large city might as well be complete different places on earth. Where I live, everyone is quite redneck/country, and in the large city, it's like a culture shock. I always pick on my best friend in my class and vice versa, because for simple words like 'on', she will say "ohnn", where I say "owwwn". I'm like, "Nikki, say it right!" haha :D Where I live is so out in the country...there are dirt roads everywhere, and one of the major pasttimes here is "muddin'"...aka riding thru the mud in either fourwheelers (ATVs) or 4wheel drive trucks. Yes, yes, I am a hick. haha.

California...fun... See, California is a COOL state. Except for the three-strikes laws...that's just dumb... I was born in Wyoming...So that's my basis for comparison. Yellowstone is so beautiful in the wintertime.

i'm a proud canadian all the way...it's sorta funny, we have one of the largest land masses for a country (not the largest, but close) and yet, we don't have a terrifically huge population. Rather nice, isn't it?
I also hail from Lithuania and China XD i'm a hybrid :D

But green is a color...Alexander Fleming was a Scot, and penecillin was first used as a drug by an Australian and a German-Briton...the British burned the white house (they landed 3500 troops in Maryland during 1814, and the American forces ran off) (they may have been Canadian troops under British command, but my source doesn't tell me anything...and you guys get bombed by your allies. :D
