In IE, click on TOOLS, Internet Options -- click on the Programs tab, then make sure the HTML Editor is set to Notepad.

Sometimes you'll need to clean your Temporary Internet Files in order to view source and what not.

Tools > Internet Tools and on the General tab in the middle there's "Temporary Internet Files" written in blue, click on Delete Files and check "Delete All Offline Content" and click okay. HTH.

No, your meant to clear out all that stuff quite often anyway...otherwise it causes problems (like not being able to view source or save images etc)

What's locking up? IE or Notepad?

I run WindowsXP and IE 6.0 and when I clear my temporary internet files it does the same thing. My files always clear when it stops and says not responding. Not sure if its a IE 6.0 or a WindowsXP glitch, or maybe its both. But it isn't harming your system. :)
