View Full Version : Snow won't work! Help!!
Aunnie 11-10-2003, 07:15 PM Okay, okay, I know there are a kajillion posts about this, but I have read as many as I can, and I have tried everything and every suggestion given! I still get those nasty x's in the white box. I know why I'm getting them (I think), but I can't figure out what to do to get the darn pics instead of the x's. Can somebody please help this poor computer illiterate person??? Thanks to any one who takes pity on me!
Rosey 11-10-2003, 07:34 PM Post your code or your site where it's happening.

I've since taken it out for fear of losing my mind and bashing in my computer! I've vowed to come back to it tomorrow & start all over again so any tips you can give me will be greatly appreciated (by myself and my husband)! I've tried the FTP thing someone suggested in another thread, but, sad to say, I'm not sure if I even know what I'm doing... how embarrassing! ;)
Rosey 11-11-2003, 02:04 AM Did you put the picture on your webspace? You need to upload the picture do your aol deal. If you haven't done that, then that's the problem.
If you have, the best thing to do, is to try to add the code again, leave it on your page and let us have a look.
Aunnie 11-11-2003, 02:40 AM Okay, I've tried again, but I'm still getting those stupid x's. I must be a complete idiot, but it's there now if you wanna take a look and see what it is that I'm doing wrong. Thanks for all your help! BTW, I've uploaded to my FTP space, I assume that's what you mean, so maybe I'm typing the wrong file name or something? I'm also trying to use another gif image (not the snowflake) so maybe that's the problem? I just dunno! :0
Rosey 11-11-2003, 02:58 AM Whatever your file name is, that's what you have to put as the actual file name in the code instead of snow.gif.
I don't see where you have added the stuff. If you've changed and saved it, it may be taking aol time to realise, hey she changed the page!
I did notice a few things wrong in your code though but that's not affecting the deal.
You have a double <body> tags but we'll fix that later.
If you are using the script from dynamic drive you need to copy and paste that code right under the body tag, change the image name to the one you actually are using and then upload that via ftp (which you have already done).
Aunnie 11-11-2003, 03:07 AM Ha Ha Ha Ha... I'm not going to tell you what I did, but now you should be able to see it! Thanks for helping me...
Rosey 11-11-2003, 03:10 AM At first glance, the picture isn't there,
Did you put it in the topmost folder of your ftp?? This is the image I see you are trying to use:
aabfly6.gif
Is that right?
EDIT: I saw it's in images, it's a butterfly right?
Edit again: if that's the one put images/aabfly6.gif and it should work.
Aunnie 11-11-2003, 03:14 AM Yes, it's a butterfly, one of Lissa's. Is that what I'm doing wrong? I've uploaded it to my FTP 3 friggin' times! AAGGHH... I read somewhere that I might need to put hometown.aol.com/rogtxdiva etc etc and then the file name??? If so, how exactly should it go? I'm not trying anything else until you tell me to! LOL
Rosey 11-11-2003, 03:23 AM On the script you added the beginning is this:
<!-- Begin
var no = 15; // snow number
var speed = 9; // smaller number moves the snow faster
var snowflake = "aabfly6.gif";
Change the aabfly6.gif to images/aabfly6.gif
Aunnie 11-11-2003, 03:30 AM Okay, I changed it to "images/aabfly6.gif", but it still didn't work? I think it is just me... :(
Rosey 11-11-2003, 04:15 AM Sorry I had to take my husband to work.
Works for me on IE, that code doesn't seem to work on Netscape for me.
You might want to hit shift and reload at the same time.
Aunnie 11-11-2003, 04:18 AM Reload? Thanks for all your help, but I think I may just delete it and go on about life... LOL ... have a great night!
Rosey 11-11-2003, 04:41 AM It's showing up on my computer on your page :P
What browser you using?
Aunnie 11-11-2003, 06:44 PM Hmm?? Funny thing, it's showing up on mine now too??? Very curious... Last night it wouldn't! Well, thanks for all your help, not sure why it wouldn't work then but it is working now! Thanks again!
Rosey 11-11-2003, 06:47 PM lol that's ok, my stupid browser was showing no pictures at all on yahoo last night...stupid ie!
But i'm glad it's working :)
