Hello!

OK, it's been a while since I've been here ... nice to see it hasn't changed all that much...

I have a question about websites. I want to get a website, cheap (obviously), but I don't know how to start. When I try and read all this stuff on the Net about what to look for, I get lost with all these terms like 'server' 'host' and 'domain'

My question ... well, actually, questions ... is, what are the differences between a 'server' 'host' 'domain' (can you tell I'm Internet-illiterate? =S) And what would you recommend I use to get each??

Thanks!
Jamz

server is a computer hooked up to the internet most of the time.

host is a server being used to "host" or store your webpages for the world to see.

domain is the "whatever.com" part.

you will need to find a good host. you can search the forum for many posts on the subject.

you will need to find a good service to buy a domain name from. most people will recommend "godaddy.com".

some host servers will bundle a domain name in with a package deal instead of having you go to a different service for it.

once you get a domain name registered and paid for, you go back to the host to get a set of id numbers. take those numbers back to the domain name register place and put them into your account. within a couple days, your domain name should be "pointing" to your own hosted space on your account at the host server.

you want a new website, but does it has to be a 'paid' one or a 'free' one? because i'm not completely sure about that from your post..
